I went to emergency last night after developing a painful tingling rash all over my right arm and back. hehehe...I forgot to add that I was diagnosed with Shingles...supposedly because my immune has been weakened because of an hospital stay two weeks ago for an obstruction...anyways..I just remembered that I have to take my Humira today and the doctor's office is closed. Should I take it? Anyone ever have any experience with this?

Or the er?

I would think no, since they say not to take it if you have an infection, the flu, or open wounds. How late does the Humira hotline stay open? You could call them too.

I have a couple different numbers. Abbott Medical Information is 1-800-633-9110. I also have one for patient assistance counselors at 1-800-222-6885. That one says to call between 8 am to 8 pm eastern. I don't know if the second one is for anybody that's on humira, or just for people who are getting meds through their patient assistance program.

EDIT:

Go to this website. It says they have nurses available to call 24 hours a day:

I to had shingles while I was taking Humira.  My GI said not to take the Humira until the shingles were gone.  I did take famvir for the shingles and they went away within 2 weeks.  I hope this helps.

I had Shingles back in March. My GI would not let me receive my Remicade treatment until the blisters were fully scabbed with no drainage. My grandfather always used to say, "When in doubt, don't." Call Humira like everyone else suggested. Also, did they give you an anti-viral med like Julia took? They gave me Valtrex which also shortened the duration of my Shingles. I received the Remicade 2 weeks later than usual, but everything ended up fine. The best of luck to you! Blessings, Julie

So, I called the Humira hotline and left my number while they paged a nurse. She told me that she can't give me any medical advice about what to do and that I have to contact my doctor. I gave her my doctor information and she is going to try and call even though I just called and they were closed. Now, my doctor has an emergency phone number which I dialed before. It goes straight to the hospital. There was a doctor last time I called there but he wasn't my G.I. and he didn't seem very kind when I called after I got out of the hospital because I was worried and freaked out...yes over nothing it turned out...it was normal after being in the hospital for an obstruction. I'm just a little stand offish about calling the emergency number again because it was kind of embarrassing last time. I think I just might hold off on the Humira until Monday and call my doctor.
