I had a colonoscopy on Tuesday, and immediately after I had pain in my left side (right under my rib cage) and I attributed it to gas. The pain comes every time I breathe, and it intensifies when I eat (and I have hardly eaten, just soup and mashed potatoes). Last night, and the night after the procedure, I couldn't even walk or sit up straight, and the pain kept me up until 1 a.m. I have no appetite. Is this normal after a colonoscopy? I figure if I suffer tonight like I did the past 2 nights, I'll call the doc tomorrow.

HI there, I would say that this is definetly not normal, I had a colonoscopy and everything was fine. Have you been having regular bm's? It couldnt be because you are constipated? Not sure, just a suggestion, but I would definitly go into the er because it sounds like you are under some distress, and also in grave pain. It could be something very serious because like I said, i didnt have any kinds of symptoms after my scope, take care, and I hope your feeling better

I always have bad cramps and gas for about 2-3 days after I get a C-Scope.  You have to remember that they put alot of air up there and if you have any inflammation that probably got a little irritated from the scope.  I would say if it continues then I would call the doc tomorrow morning.  But I always feel like crap for 2-3 days afterwards.  Usually each day it gets a little better.  Good luck!!!

I've never had this happen after a scope, but if you're feeling that bad, check with your doctor... could be gas/cramps, but best to be on the safe side. Take care.

I called my doc and he isn't too concerned about it. He said it could just be my Crohn's acting up and that if it gets worse (to the point where I am constantly doubled over in pain) then to let him know. He is hoping the steriods he is prescribing to me today will help the pain subside.
