Hi everyone. I am a NEW member of Helaing well. I never thought I would have the opportunity to speak to people who are going thought the same thing as me and I think it is amazing that you can!
I however, dont have Crohn's. BUT, my husband of one year does. I have been looking thought the forms to seek answers to questions I have about living with the disease. My husband is currently going on REMICADE and just just just got off his Metho... There are so many answers to women seeking pregnancy approval when they are on it, but what happens when the male is on it? Does it effect me having the baby? does the remicade effect the sperm? I have searched and searched but I can't find the answer.
Desperately seeking an answer,

It is working but I don't know the answer to your question. I do want to say hi and welcome though!
27 Year old married female law student (last year!!). Diagnosed w/ CD 4 years ago, IBS for over 10 years before that, which was probably the CD. I am sort of lactose intollerant too but can handle anything cultured and do well w/ lactose pills and lactaid. For crohns I am currently on Pentasa 4 pills/4x day and hysociamine prn. I also have bad acid reflux and have been on PPI's since age 13. I have been through prilosec, prevacid, and nexium. Currently I am on Protonix in the morning and Zantac at night. I also take a birth control pill to allow some fun in my life.

sorry I don't have answers either :(

But I just wanted to say hi and welcome. I'm in a similar situation -my husband has crohn's and we are hoping to start a family soon. This forum has been so helpful.

So, my husband is having surgery next month and then will start meds. Likely humira... Maybe remicade. I'm also very curious about the fertility issue! Maybe some meds are better than others? I have read that some can impact male ferility, but unfortunately I don't remember which ones. What I do remember is that it said that fertility goes back to normal as soon as the meds are stopped so it might make sense to hold off while trying to get pregnant... If possible. Hopefully someone else will know more!

Hi and Welcome to HealingWell, I have been on remicade for 5 years. I have no problems sexually from the remicade. i would also recommend talking with his gastro.
Hi, I am teddybearweiser, I am a male.
I was diagnosed with crohns disease when i was admitted to the hospital

in 1992, in Jan of 1993 I was back in the hospital for surgery for my crohns. I had part of my right colon resectioned with ilecolonstomy.

My GI doctor has me on Asacol, Dicyclomine,Imuran,Celebrex and Remicade. B-12 injection once a month.

Yes welcome to healingwell and while I don't have an answer to your question I think talking to his gastro and your obgyn is the way to go.

Wicked. thank you so much everyone for your responces. I have been reading a lot of these forms and they are VERY helpful. I have done my research and it seems that it is OKAY to try! there is no birth defects or miscarrage history when the male is on remicade. however, when you look up pregnancy and methotrex.... it is cautioned all over the place. And yes to the individual above, we did put some sprem in a bank in case we had to explore that avenue. We have been to the OBGYN we have done all the above, all that is left is a LARGE BILL and insemination. Although that sounds wonderful, I am only 26 and dont want to go that route if I dont have to. I am sure you can undertand. My husband's counts were high when he put the sperm aside so I am hoping that is on our side still. He takes naturals Vit B, D, C, he takes alo juice to heal the stomach lining, and his flax seed oils, as well as enzymes for digestion everyday. So, I agree I should speak to the OBGYN and his gastro but sometimes they are too cautious in their responces to these questions instead of thinking of what WE are going throught as individuals trying to make a baby and a family. All wanting to hear that it is okay to do that. I am sure you can all sympathize with that!!! .. :)

tistodawg.... If you are checking. Does Testosterone levels get checked in blood work? WE JUST had all kinds of blood taken for the insemination process and the only thing that came back what that my husband was low in iron, so he is on the naturals to help that. I dont know if you know but thank you for making me aware of that!
