If you are already in a flare and have something come up--an illness, something stressful--can it make the flare you are in worse?
I have heard illness, stress, etc., can trigger flares but I was wondering what their impact is on flares...

I believe it can but that doesn't mean it always will...the chances may be higher of stress exacerbating your symptoms of crohn's but that doesn't necessarily mean every time you get stressed either. A lot might have to do with how long you're stressing for and/or how severely you're stressing, likely the worse/longer you're stressing the better the chance of it making your flare worse.

My bum is broken....there's a big crack down the middle of it! LOL :)

I was having a mild flare (basically a bit worse with the D and nausea) and then learned my grandpa died. It got so bad that I drank Ensure and water and nibbled on bland foods during the whole wake/viewing stuff. Yeah it can I suppose.

I would say yes, certain things can make an existing flare even worse... For me they run the gamut from cold pills to severe stress or travel-related anxiety to certain foods... I would say that anything that can cause you to flare at all can potentially make an already existing flare worse.

At least, that's been my experience.

Also, sometimes I fall victim to that "I'm already flaring so what the crap does it matter what I eat?" and then I down a double fudge brownie sunday. Not a good idea. I always regret that, because it ALWAYS makes it worse for me.
