Hi everyone. I was diagnosed with Crohn's 9 years ago.
In 2006 I was taking Remicade due to vaginal fistulas. In March I got pregnant, and it threw me into remission. I didn't need any treatments while pregnant. I did take Flagyl for a little while due to a cervical infection and it cleared my fistulas up completely. I delivered one month early via c-section (my water broke); she was 6lbs 10oz and not considered a premie. I stayed in remission for 1 1/2. 6 months ago I had a flare.
My GI suggested surgery to help relieve my pain. But I didn't want surgery until I had at least one more baby. My OBGYN agreed; he was concerned about scar tissue.
I went on 6MP and Entocort; I began to feel relief in Oct. My husband and I want to get pregnant again, but my GI wants me off all medications when I conceive; he told me to ween myself off the medicine about a week before my ovulation time. He's hoping that I'll go into remission again once I get pregnant. Then, he said we can talk about possible medication if I don't.
I'm off all medicine now, and for the most part I feel fine. My fistulas are gone. But once the evening hits on certain days I get abdominal pain. Sometimes I feel fluttering in my stomach and discomfort. My bowel movements have been solid and not frequent (sorry for TMI), but I'm scared about getting pregnant.
I know active crohn's increases your chance of pregnancy complications. I was hoping to hear from other women with Crohn's and what their experiences with pregnancy were like. (Especially if you had positive outcomes!)
Wishing everyone healthy remissions!

We have had many new moms on this forum deliver healthy babies while continuing to take things such as 6mp, Imuran, Remicade and Humira. I am surprised at your doc wanting you off meds to get pregnant. The usual run of thumb is a healthy mom equals a healthy baby.

Welcome Bachi. I just had a healthy baby girl while taking Pentasa and Prevacid. I went off 6mp ahead of time, but that was mostly because my bloodwork was all over the place no matter the dose. I was in remission before getting pregnant and stayed there. I felt great the entire pregnancy and didn't have any of the scary complications you hear about. In fact, my daughter was 2 weeks LATE and normal size. I may be starting to flare now (4 months later), but I'm hoping to continue to nurse.

From the people I've talked to it is best to be in remission or at least have the disease under control before getting pregnant. As Nanners said, healthy mom = healthy baby. If the disease is active, I'd want to be on some medication to help. You may want to talk to a maternal fetal specialist for more information. Many moms-to-be with active disease go that route, continue there meds and have healthy babies. You can search through old threads, there are many on this topic. We seem to be having a baby boom here on healingwell lately.

Good luck!
Hoping to stay in remission after the birth of a healthy baby girl. On Pentasa during my pregnancy, went med-free 2 months to nurse (stupid), but back on Pentasa and still nursing.
