Just found out yesterday my brother has throat cancer (he quit smoking 22 yrs ago, the irony), then my hubby was driving home on the the highway today (doing about 130km) and his back drivers side tire came off and bounced all the way across the highway before landing in the ditch, luckily the tire didn't kill or hurt anyone and even though he lost his breaks with the tire he finally managed to come to a stop with no injury but I'm sure he crapted his pants over the whole ordeal, so he calls me to go pick him up off the highway which during rush hour was totally stressful ontop of everything eles, but we managed...it just hasn't been a good yr so far, I mean I'm definitely thankful that no one got hurt on the highway and although my bro is in stage 3 going into stage 4 they're starting combination radiation/chemo on him and he's got a positive attitude about it all but it's been very stressful this yr already.
Thanks for letting me vent.

Hope it will be a "in like a lion out like a lamb" year for you. That is a scary start. Thank God you got everybody off the road safely. Hope things get better soon for you.

I always say I hope this is going to be a better year, then it never seems to be one! I'm so sorry to hear about your brother, he'll be in my thoughts and prayers! I hope his treatment kicks the cancers butt. I'm always amazed to hear how people can have such a positive attitude when faced with something like that, they are truely the strong and brave.

I'm glad your husband is okay, and that no one else was hurt! I bet that did some damage to your poor car though! Our neigbhor just had something similar happen. Messed up their car pretty bad. Just sitting in their drive way now.

Hi pb I hope that the stem cell they have now will soon be able to help cancer patients as they can now tell the good cell from the bad in Toronto. Am praying that it will be able to help people soon. Glad your hubby made it home safe.lol gail

Pb, this is exactly the reason why my sisters and I, have refused to say happy new year. Every year we wish for a better
one, and we've come to the conclusion, that puts a whammy on it.

I sure hope your brother gets all the help he needs....and so pleased that your husband wasn't injured. (((hugs)))

Two bowel resections, several obstructions.

Pb, I'm sorry to hear about your brother. I will pray that he beats this cancer and makes it out nice and strong.

And as for you hubby, I'm glad that he didn't get hurt nor anyone else! That is scary for sure! My hubby was moving a car engine in the trailer a couple years ago. The roads here in MI are a total mess - pothole city. But anyway, he must've hit a huge pot hole and the trailer flew off the hitch, went across a four lane E-way and landed in the median. I am soooooo thankful that no one got hit with that engine - that probably would've of severely injured if not killed someone. So I know how scary these things are. But look on the brightside...........if you get the worse out of the way now, rest of the year will be smooth sailing..........hopefully!

Hello Pb,

I pray your brother gets the best treatment possible and receives the healing he needs! Please let us know how it goes with him. And oooowww your husband had quite a scare! He must be a good driver to have managed to get the car stopped safely with only 3 tires!

I hope the rest of the year is wonderful for you!

Hope things get better! Just curious, does he have alloy wheels? We almost had a wheel come off because we have alloy wheels and didn't know it. Alloy's have to be retorqued any time the tires are rotated - you have to drive them for a day or so and go back to have them tightened. We also were very lucky. We caught it just as it was about to come off.

Hi guys and thank you all so much for your love and support, it is greatly appreciated cuz I really need it right now...

It was the ball-bearings that broke causing his tire and breaks to fall off with and yes there is definitely some damage done to the body and underside as well, the mechanic won't even be able to get to it for a week or 2 so he's taking my potty van to work until/unless he can figure something eles out (maybe get access to a company vehical)...158.00 just to tow it 8km but they have you by the balls when it comes to needing a tow, they also had to use a flat bed since they couldn't hoist the front end up with a back tire missing so that probably added to the expense, now the fixing cost will be unpleasant I'm sure but I'm just glad hubby was okay and that no one got hurt amazingly with the way that tire travelled across all those lanes before it landed in the ditch on the opposite side of the highway.

I talked to my sister last night and she found out that our brother doesn't have it in the tounge (my mom's info was mistaken understandably) but he has it in the the throat, 3rd stage going into 4 which was even more upsetting news...they're starting the radiation/chemo therapy on him as soon as they check his teeth to make sure he has no cavaties (infection purposes) and he'll be getting the treatment everyday during the week, weekends off...amn I hope he pulls through this, he's only 59 (just had his birthday end of Dec).

Thank you all again and hopefully I'll be able to report good news on him in the near future. Fingers XXXXXXXXX

I'm so sorry that these things happened!! I hope things start to look up.
I don't wish for a 'better' new year but simply a good one. I believe it still can be. The positive attitudes on the part of all of you is proof of that. The world is as horrible as we see it.

Geeeeez what a crappy way for the new year to start. I find that bad things come in three' s though so maybe you have had your three and thats all for a long time. I know what you mean by damage from the tire. I trailored my scooter up north for Xmass so I could have the oil changed. Had a blow out at about 70 mph on the right wheel of the trailor. Got off the road OK and changed the tire ,,,in the rain,,, but the tire beat all the paint off the fender. So now I have to paint the fender and repair the bent parts and the new trailor tires cost me $180..

Ya Sniper, my hubby thought at first that his tire blew until he saw the sparks flying and lost his breaks then he knew it came right off, breaks and all, the tire is still in good shape and they'll likey be able to get it back on...the good news is that he's getting it towed from the mechanics place that it's at right now (the guy there said it would be a week or 2 before he'd even get a chance to look at it) tomorrow it's being picked up and taken into the city to the mechanics where hubby's company takes all their vehicals and the company is picking up the tab so we're only out the 158 we paid last night and we'll get it back sooner that a week or 2...the boss really does luv my hubby, at the company xmas party he picked up the tab for our hotel room.
