I've heard sugar is supposed to be bad for our gut....not to mention our weight. A friend of mine with different problems has been using agave nectar in place of sugar.  She gave me a bottle of the light and a bottle of the dark. The light is similar to honey. The dark is similar to molassis (sp?). Anyway, I was wondering if anyone here uses agave nectar in place of sugar and if so, what are you thoughts? Any good agave nectar recipe sites?
~Never officially diagnosed~
Appendectomy in 2001. Appendix perforated & gangrenous. Had pain off and on for 3 years prior. This is where all my trouble started.
Hospitalized in August 2005 with a bowel obstruction.
Colonoscopy showed definite colitis, SBFT showed narrowing of the Ileum and a possible fistula.
Both tests came back as consistent with CD.
2nd bowel obstruction February 2008. Got through it at home.
Currently not on CD meds. Following a low~residue diet and taking fish oil daily and Align probiotics daily.

I use it for myself but not for my son. I really like it in my coffee or tea. I'm not sure why, but on the SCD it's not considered "legal".

As for recipes, it can be substituted for honey in any of the SCD recipes. I've done it before. Seems quite a bit more expensive to me than using honey, though.
Mom to 16 year old son diagnosed in June, 2007.
Omega 3s, digestive enzymes, probiotics, vit. C, calcium w/D3, a good multivitamin and SCD legal yogurt
Started The Maker's Diet in Sept. '07. Incorporate Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD) recipes, too.

i use it, along with honey and maple syrup. i find it sweeter than honey so i use slightly less than i would if i used honey. my honey is always crystallized but the agave nectar is liquid so i end up using agave nectar more just out of convenience. but then i use all these natural sweeteners very sparingly, in small amounts and then not every day.
