is anyone else taking 6-MP and Asacol together?  My blood work this week showed some elevated liver function levels...my doc is not one to freak out at all, but told me to stop taking the Asacol that I have been on for years ASAP...he said the Asacol can amplify the effects of the 6-MP...any one else have expereience with this?

Yes. I was on imuran and asacol, and my gi told me the same thing....that it can amplify the results....something like that she explained. I'm glad that he is aware of that...not every dr. seems to pay attention to that.

cool. thanks for the response!
I always get a bit worried taking so many meds...we all know all interactions and reactions are both not documented and different for everyone...scary stuff sometimes!
he's a very good doc here in AZ...it's really nice to have a gastro that calls himself at 6:30 on a Friday night if something does not seem right.

Hi. I am starting imuran on Monday and just switched from asacol to pentasa. I too will have to have the bloodwook on a mo basis to make sure my counts are ok. I am very scared to start this new drug, yet it seems to make sense to do so.

Are you only going to be taking the imuran now?

i was taking Asacol, not pentasa or imuran...so right now i'm only on 6-mp and a short course of prednisone...i guess the 1000 Asacol pills in my pantry are going to waste...that's a lot of cash!

My daughter *was* on Asacol and 6MP. Her first set of blood tests came back OK with the exception of being anemic.
She has had a week of extreme joint pain so we took her off the 6MP 2 days ago and she is much better. I hope you find the answers you are looking for!

currently on 2400 mg Asacol and 50 mg 6-MP
