I have taught off and on for the last 30 years, WOW, that is a long time.
I was diagnosed with CD in 2000. I was in the middle of my first year teaching kindergarten, after many years teaching first and second grade. Since then I have had good years and not so good years health wise, but I LOVE TEACHING KINDERGARTEN!!!!
This year, after a very bad summer, two hospital visits and losing my Dad, I started the year off not doing very well. On Sept. 15 I decided to take the year off with a medical leave of absence, 12 weeks were concidered FMLA, so my insurance continued!! What a relief!!!
It has been good to have less stress, and I may not return to teaching next Sept., because I am just not as healthy when teaching as I get older, I am 52.
It is different for everyone, and I loved every year I taught. It is an awesome career, and well worth the time, and effort for the rewards you receive from all of those little smiling faces who think you are wonderful!!
I wish you the very best in your decision!!
