Hi all, I am 28 year old male, live in Florida, was diagnosed with Crohn's in January of 2009, 3 weeks ago. I was pretty bummed out at first but now I am trying to change my attitude, stay positive and snap out of it. I am taking some antibiotics still and supposed to stop pretty in few weeks. I am sorta anxious to see what's going to happen then. Right now I am feeling fine, I get little pains in my abdominal area but its not bad at all. I don't have diarrhea or vomit. I am on a very strict diet right now I eat mostly blended foods and soups. Drink only water, I am perfectly fine with doing that for the rest of my life as long as my condition doesnt worsen. I wonder if any of you drink alcohol with Crohn's I know of some people that do and they are in pain for a week after. So I dont think it is worth it. The way I look at it is I'll be healthier on this diet after all. I am a little bit of a gym goer so I am wondering if that affects Crohn's in any way. Or any other physical activity, like playing hockey, soccer and mountain biking.
I am starting to take yoga and Thai Chi to relax and stop my anxiety, I also bought some books on amazon to know more about my disease.

Sorry for such an unstructured intro but that is how my brain works. Nice to meet you all.

Just wanted to welcome you to the HW family. Glad you found us, sorry you need us. I have been told by my GI I can do any exercise I want. I ride a bicycle atleast 100 miles a week and often 30 plus miles a day on the weekends. I avoid all alcohol by learning the hard way it cause havoic with my disease, but everyone is different. Good luck and I hope you find the answers you are looking for.

Hi there and welcome, sorry you have this disease although it sounds like you are doing ok which is great. Try not to stress as that often makes you feel lousy. Alcohol for me is a no no but some people here can cope with one or two. I do enjoy a glass of wine once in a while but then I pay for it so I generally give it a miss. As for exercise I love to go for walks, bike riding etc but lately havent been able to due to being unwell but I am confident I will be able to do those things amongst other activities again. When we are in remission we can lead a normal life pretty much. What medications have they put you on? take care and keep us posted

Hi incubus4fun and welcome! Sorry you have to be here, but nice to meet you, too!

Shortly after my son's diagnosis I found out about two diets for Crohn's through this forum. They are the Maker's Diet by Jordan Rubin (book by the same name--very interesting read!), and the Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD) from the book "Breaking the Vicious Cycle", by Elaine Gottschall. These two diets are very similar. (In fact, it's rumored that Elaine Gottschall "taught" her diet to Rubin and he tweaked it a bit to publish his story/diet.) The SCD has endless online FREE information, as well as cook books written for it that are compliant. In any case, I thought you might enjoy reading them! My son follows this diet and is off all meds in complete remission. He also is a competitive swimmer and works out a minimum of 2.5 hours a day, 6 days a week, so keep doing whatever makes you happy! Stress relief is a great idea, too!

Best wishes and success to you! smilewinkgrin

Hi incubus4fun and welcome to Healingwell. Sorry for the reason you are here though. As you can see we have alot of supportive folks here trying to live with this darn disease too. As for alchohol I can't drink it anymore either it just makes me sick:( As for diet, I would suggest a food diary to keep track of foods that bother you and those that don't. Diet is pretty individual for each of us, what works for some doesn't work for all. Some as Emom said have had success with the Makers or SCD diet. But these diets are not for everyone. They are very strict and some have not had great success with them. I personally live on a low residue diet, easy to chew, easy to digest and it works well for me.

Look forward to hearing more from you.

Good luck,
Gail *Nanners*

As a matter of my own opinion (based on what I've seen of his credentials and what I've read of his writing and what a few people have written about his writing) and in no way trying to offend anyone, I don't trust Jordan Rubin, and I never will. At any rate...

Exercise is a good thing to do, but you need to be careful... Try to avoid too many exercises that involve the abdomen... because it can start getting painful (at least, for me...)

I've heard that yoga can help relieve joint pain a little bit... It's good that you're into it because you may (keyword: may. It's definitely not a certainty)... develop joint pain later...

I'm sorry that you've gotten diagnosed with this disease... but you sound like you're coping well. That's good. Keep your spirits up and try not to worry too much. Stress can aggravate the disease...

Incubus4fun,
Welcome to healingwell. Unfortunately I hate to have to ask you this, but can you please change your user name? I know incubus is the name of a band, but it also has a much darker meaning that is not appropriate for a family friendly site.

Sorry about that,
Navy
