Sheri, do you mean Xanax, which is a medicine for anxiety? If so, I take Xanax for anxiety attacks. I have taken it as needed for years and it has really helped me. .25 is the lowest prescription dose available. I hope this helps. Blessings, Julie

xanax is a good fast acting antianxiety med.....0.25mg is the lowest dose, I have actually cut in in half and it has been lasts about 4 hours....the difference between xanax and valium is that xanax takes the edge off and is not as sedating as valium...just be careful about how often you take it and how is a highly addictive medication...

My family doctor had given it to me for the same reason you all have it, however I was also taking librax for IBS about a few years ago. I weaned myself off the librax when I was diagnosed and started on my Crohns medicaions and started feeling anxious a lot more.....well when I went for my checkup with my family doc he told me it was because of the nerve medicaion in the librax and I may find that I need the xanax more often since I didn't take the librax anymore.

All of that being family doctor told me last week that if I wanted I could go back on the lirbax for cramping and to help keep my nerves in check. I told him I thought I would pass because I have become less anxious about taking a xanax when I need one instead of waiting too long and going into a full attack. We talked a little more and agreed that since I don't need the xanax daily that it is a good tool to use when dealing with my anxiety and the crohns.

I take .50 mg and am more than able to function at work, with my kids, etc.... it is like everyone else just takes the edge off things.

it takes the edge off but you need to be very careful with it. its very very addicting...not that you crave it.. but you build up tolerance to it fast and benzo withdrawal is amongst the hardest withdrawal in the world to come off of. Xanax, ativan, klonopin are very powerful drugs that should not be taken lightly or used heedlessly. I myself use klonopin because of the longer halflife of the drug. with xanax it wears off in a few hours so if you are still anxious.. you pop another or you are left back at square one. Alot of times the rebound anxiety will be worse then the anxiety you had originally taken it for especially after long term use.

History: UC/Chrons since age 22, now 27.  Several huge flares since then.  Entire colon diseased at some point from cecum to rectum.  Also had previous inflammation in terminal ileum.
Currently: flare -9/19/08 - now|Panic Disorder - 6/25/08 - now|Lyme Disease - 12/09/08 - now|Dysplastic Nevus Syndrome - 6 recent mod dysplasia moles excised, and many more to shave biopsy.
Drugs: prednisone 30 mg|6mp 75 mg|lialda 4.8 mg|Paxil 50 mg|Klonopin .25 mg|Trazodone 50 mg|PRN Perc/Tramadol
