At the end of this week I'm scheduled to talk to a surgeon about having my colon removed. My GI and I had an extensive talk about it. However, I tend to listen and then think of things to ask later.
For those of you who have had some surgery before, what would you say I should ask/educate myself on?
thanks

Diagnosed with UC in 06 then it was changed to CD in 07
Currently on: 36 mg steroids, Colazal, Remicade.
I've been on: Pentasa, asacol, methotrexate, immuran (I had a bad reaction to it), Enemas.. on and on and on..
I've had flare ups in my stomach but most of my symptoms resemble UC.. so my doc is unsure of what I have or if it's both.. I'm irritated by this fact.

Hi Is this your first surgery? Myself I didn't ask much and figured they would do what was needed so I didn't ask many questions. Perhaps others will be able to help.. How long is the hospital stay? Hope things go good on your appointment.. keep in touch.. lol gail

Hi Kanditron,

I suggest you visit the ostomy forum for advice on handling this surgery. I also suggest you get a second opinion. This surgery is permanent and if you have CD, the surgery isn't a cure as it is for UC. Let us know how it goes.

Take care!
Diagnosed with rectal Crohn's in early 2007.  Several peri-rectal abscesses and two fistulae with setons.  Allergic to Remicade and Humira.  Currently on 6MP, and vitamins D and B-12.
