hi i was just wondering if anyone has been diagnosed with crohn's soley based on their symtpoms? i'm not entirely convinced still that i have crohn's, as i just believe it to be IBS! i've been on salofalk granules for nearly a year and since doubling my dosage i have to admit my stomach isn't really behaving how it used to.
I was diagnosed with fructose malabsorption last year, which i have been told can be linked with crohn's disease, although i believe i brought it on myself as my diet used to be mainly made up of fruit and wheat products! and i ate A LOT of fruit everyday and night. But apparently it's not something you can do to urself?!
Before i started taking any medication my GI ran a blood test on me to detect any inflammtion that could be going on inside. He said if spmeone reaches 25 then it's pretty black and white that they have crohn's and i scored 24.9, so that was the first indicator that maybe something more than IBS is going on. Do you reckon it's possible to for it to have been a false positive? My GI said no that when i asked him.
Since i started the meds my inflammtion markers have been low. I havent had D in 2 months but now it's sort of reveresed the other way and i'm having trouble with my BMs from constipation to straining, to sometimes frequent trips to the bathroom i went about 8 times yesterday but it was all formed and just little bits! a few weeks ago i had severe constipation and i almost threw up, i've only ever experienced that once a few years ago and i did vomit back then. is this common with crohn's?
To sum it all up these are what my symptoms include: D and now C, used to have gurgles and some mucous in BMS not so much anymore ( again since starting meds) sometimes aches and pains in my stomach, and the feeling i;m about to have D but nothing comes, fatigued a lot, sometimes mouth sores, elevated liver enzymes ( for the 3rd time), ribcage pain. i'm so frustrated and confused!! i know crohn's can take a long time to manifest itself but i'm still not fully convinced.
My GI says he is only becoming increasingly convinced that it is crohn's, because even though everything was clear internally they can't reach every part of your intestines through gastroscopy and colonoscopy! I'm assuming they don't give people medicine for crohn's if they arent pretty sure? so frustraaatiiiiiing!! sad

Well they gave me meds before my diagnosis was 100%, they said they're about 75% sure I have Crohn's, I'll have a definitive answer when I get my biopsy results in a week or so. I would suggest doing a pill cam, the gastroscopy and colonoscopy can't see most of your small intestine. It isn't as common to have Crohn's there but it could happen.
