Has anyone used either of these meds?  I'd appreciate any information ---my daughter is having a flare and her DR has recommended Canasa but it would cost us $200 --- cortifoam is only $30 but I have to wait because no one has it in stock.  We are really trying to avoid Pred --- although I have heard you can take a few days of Pred and possibly stop the flare and avoid the horrible side effects ????

currently on 2400 mg Asacol and 50 mg 6-MP

I used the cortifoam for awhile two different times and felt it very less evasive than the preg. It helped a lot for me. Never had the Canasa. Hope she feels better soon.

I use Canasa and it is a lifesaver! I don't use it all of the time, only when I'm having specific area flares. Can you ask your doctor for samples? I know it is an expensive drug... does your insurance cover it?

As far as the prednisone... sometimes (when I'm not in a flare) if I eat something that starts my pain I can take a prednisone and it helps to relieve it, but according to my doctor, it's rare for a person to be able to use pred as a "pain pill". At the moment I'm in a drawn out flare up, so I'm on a course of prednisone; sometimes doing an 8-week or so course of them is the best way to get out of the flare.
