Humira injection site reactions

Mine got worse for a while, then got better. I take Benadryl (2), and Zantac the night I give myself the shot, and then use Calamine lotion the next couple days on the reaction area. For some reason, Zantac also helps not get as big a reaction site. Calamine lotion (even the clear kind) works the best to keep it from itching.

I also don't ice, because it doesn't make the shot any different, so why do it?

Maybe yours will get better eventually. How long have you been on Humira?

Currently on Humira, Prilosec, Effexor, Seroquel, Calcium, Vit D, sublingual B12; phenergan, ultram, clonazepam as needed

My GI recommended the Zantac. Not sure how or why it helps, but it does. You just take it as directed on the package.

As for the Claratyne....I'm sure it wouldn't hurt to try another type of antihistamine...some work better than others from one person to another.

I used to get a big itchy red patch that lasted for some time. That was before I warmed up the medicine before the injection. Now I hold the pen in my hot little hand for at least 15 minutes, and at most, I get a nickel sized itchy spot for one day. I find that taking an epsom salt bath, and putting a pile of epsom salts right on the injection site for awhile, helps the itchiness go away faster. Last weekend I was lucky (sort of). The pen hit a vein, which made it bleed a little and left a bruise, but no itchy red spot.

nothing here but an occaisional bruise.
