For those of you following my teeth/bone/Asacol/Boniva/Reclast/Prednisone/Vit D tanking over the last several months...I had the remainder of my teeth removed last Friday.  So far, so good with the exception of it still hurts like (*&^%$#!  cry For a recap, I stopped the Humira on Jan. 3rd, the Imuran on Jan. 16th in preparation for the surgery and to help ward off the reoccuring cellulitis in my face until I had all the teeth yanked.  This is only post surgery day 5 but no signs of infection or jaw necrosis have appearred and the oral sadist devil says I'm on track.  Hopefully the Reclast is NOT going to claim my jawbone after all!!!  I've been lucky so far in that I haven't had a Crohn's attack the whole time smilewinkgrin and have been able to escape any antibiotics as well!  Have my new denture ready to go but still too swollen to get them in.  They don't really like my accompaning 12 stitches either. eyes Between the swelling and the fake teeth, I look like a mule with them in anyway.  blush We are going to discuss me starting my Humira back next Monday and if I make it 3 more weeks and everything in the mouth heals over well I should be out of the woods.  cool Keep me in your prayers and I hope your CD is treating you kinder today.
There was a mention of a 33 year old with Crohns that died recently on Bill O'Reilly's show tonight (happened to be walking through the room when I heard it). We haven't lost anyone have we? confused

Broomhilda-I am glad that things are going relatively well for you.
Do you mind if I hyjack a bit and ask about Humira.
My doc wants me to concider that next-(like start at my next appointment in a few weeks but I haven't heard any stories from people who use it)
Do you like it?
Any side effects?
Did it work?

Hey Randy!

How are things with you?  Are you still hot as ever?! blush Yeah, my stomach is loving all the mush!  What I wouldn't give for some real food!  Course look who I'm talking too!  I don't know how you've done it!  Mashed potatoes, white cheese sandwiched, cottage cheese, yogurt, mashed bananas, applesauce, tuna.......bluck!

It could always be worse, huh, I could be down to water & cream of rice and still not be able to keep that in!  Must be thankful for my small blessings! Sigh! rolleyes

Hey broomhilda, your comment about looking like a mule made me laugh out loud for several minutes. I love a good sense of humor. I hope your doing well and your teeth fit soon. It could be worse. Mine are all real but they look like Steve Buscemi's after a bareknuckle fight with Mike Tyson. Best Wishes, Tony

SJKLY- Read my response to Aimee's post earlier this evening and that should give you some background on my Humira. It usually gives me flu like achiness and low grade fever and fatigue for about 24hrs after injections. Other than that it's been good to me! It's Prednisone that scared me to death!

Hello Broomhilda!

Wow! I hate cellulitis! I hope it doesn't plague you again now that the teeth are out! The great news is that the teeth will never bother you again!

Praying that you heal very fast and completely, and can get busy chomping on something yummy real soon!!
Diagnosed with rectal Crohn's in early 2007.  Several peri-rectal abscesses and two fistulae with setons.  Allergic to Remicade and Humira.  Currently on 6MP, and vitamins D and B-12.

Hey glad to hear you are on the mend. I do have a question for you. Would you recommend the Reclast to someone else, knowing what you know now? I'm due for my next bone density in 2 months and Reslast is next up if my numbers have gone down, but after keeping up with your story, I'm not so sure I want to go there. But, at 44, I'm also not so sure I want to be petrified of going outside in the winter or coughing too much for fear of breaking something. I have too long to live to be afraid to do anything, let alone do anything fun. My current treatment plan had been working, but I just broke a few ribs with a bad case of bronchitis, so I am a little fearful of the next bone density.

On a side note, my sister just had her teeth pulled and dentures made at the end of last year. I know it was really hard for her for the first couple of weeks, especially eating and talking with the new teeth in. But now, you would never know it. I'm sure you won't look like a mule at all!!!!

Managing with strict low residue diet, keeping symptoms to a minimum. All test show small amount of ulceration, still have occasional blockages. But still have a great time with my 2 daughters and husband!

This is wonderful news.

Good Luck with your new choppers.

I have one more tooth to get yanked out, and one small cavity to fill, then I can get my lower partial made towards the end of this month.
