I have just 7 weeks to my due date. My crohn  is in total remission, CPR 9. I was told bye a few doctors in England that is safe to breastfeed while on  azathioprine. Any thoughts?? I am unsure  if i will go ahead or not. Thanks in advance .
100mg azathioprine a day, pregnancare and fish oil. Feeling wonderfull in this most special time of my life.

Dr. Hale is considered a leading expert, if not THE leading expert in the U.S. for medications and how they affect breast milk.

This is the link to his main site:

Here is the link specific to Azathioprine:

Dr. Hale says it's safe, that not much passes through the milk at all. Best wishes for an easy delivery!!!!!

I was on Imuran (azathioprine) when pg with my 1st daughter and my GI (Dr. Hanauer at Univ of Chicago) gave me the go ahead to breastfeed while taking it.

Congrats on your pregnancy and best wishes!

I was told not to take 6MP while pregnant or breastfeeding.. I stayed in remission all throughout my pregnancy and while breastfeeding... it was only when I stopped that my symptoms came back.. better safe than sorry, esp when it comes to your baby's health, not just yours...

Congrats! Check Dr. Hale's site. He has the best info. Even better is to talk to a Doctor or lactation consultant with access to his book.
Hoping to stay in remission after the birth of a healthy baby girl. On Pentasa during my pregnancy, went med-free 2 months to nurse (stupid), but back on Pentasa and still nursing.

Sometimes I feel like no matter what is in our bodies, breastfeeding is safer...I just read today a report that many baby formulas have components of ROCKET FUEL in them.
Good grief..
