Hello everybody. Just would like to say that I've been reading many posts throughout the months and now thought it was time for me to contribute somewhat. This forum is excellent and very active and I'm hoping it will help me with some of the issue's I have currently.
My story goes back 10 years ago to the time when I had a polyp removed and then a colonoscopy procedure to follow, the results were inflammation in the ileum and Crohn's. My symptoms at the time were pain located at the left lower side with slight diarrhoea.
Now through the years I have suffered with rectal bleeding on and off, ( more on however ) Medication up to this point was Pentasa 1500mg. Now going up to recent times ( last year ) I had another colonoscopy done because of the bleeding. My GI found intestines to be all OK which was strange because my bleeding was still present. I'm really worried at the moment because the bleeding has got alot worse and is happening with every bowel movement. My GI has put on uniroid first of all but to no avail, now I'm taking Ascol 250mg suppository 1 per day. ( started yesterday )
This persistent heavy bleeding is starting to get me rather concerned now. I just wondered if anybody out there had or is having any similar issues?
Thank you all so much.

Could it possibly be bleeding from external and internal hemmoroids?

Poppy - I'm a bleeder too. That happens to me daily, but it takes a toll and though I have to remind myself, it's not normal. Have you tried CortEnemas? A different enema with cortisone in it. It sounds like you've got some rectal disease too? Is that why you're on the enemas? That's why I bleed - my rectum is badly ulcerated.

Maybe it's time to talk to your doctor about a stronger medication? Has the doctor ever mentioned any of the immune modulators? Then again, I found the Cortenemas to be quite effective with rectal bleeding.

It's a scary thing to happen so regularly. I'm so sorry you have to go through this!

If this is a new symptom then be sure to get the doc to check it out, don't leave it to see if it will clear up on it's own, it may get even more out of control and the more out of control the harder it will be to treat.

Before I was dx with Crohn's in 1978, I too was bleeding with almost every bowel movement. I was in nursing school at the time with lots of stress. I was going between diarrhea & constipation so I had it checked out. Turns out I had lots of anal fissures that were bleeding when I had a solid BM. The doctor had to sew them up & I had to have a unit of blood & that was when they said I had Crohn's. So has your doctor done a look see to see if anything is there? Proctoscopy ,Sigmoidoscopy?
Take care

A bleeding crohnie often indicates that there is disease activity in the colon/rectom region and there is something your doc can do to try and aid with it, rectal meds would be necessary if your rectom has disease activity going on.

Poppy100, I bled so much for awhile I was so anemic I couldn't function very well. I had iron and B12 shots that helped get some energy. Started to recover a little. I agree it sounds like rectal problems that might need more serious attention. Since I started stool softeners it has really helped my battered rectum and bleeding has almost stopped. med. enemas great too. Hope you can find the answer and feel better soon.

I have been bleeding for the past 1 1/2 years every time I have a bm. I am taking 12 asacol a day and now take proctifoam enema beacuse the canasa supp wasn't working. It is scary for me at first but since its been going on so long I tend to ignore it. My GI knows its going on and we are trying different things....he keeps reminding me its not normal because I kind of blow it off. I went and saw him today and I have had joint pain and stomach pain and I told him that it sucked but I have to laugh and keep a good a attitude because I have a 5 year old and a 7 month old and feel like a 90 yr old with joint pain. If I don't laugh and stay positive....I would sure be crying by now.
Diagnosed w/crohns in October 07

I have just got a bad period of bleeding under control. I had to go on IV Sudo-Medrol in hospital for a couple of days. The bleeding was because of inflammation in my rectum. I am using various rectal meds now to keep things under control until the flare-up is over. I don't think you should accept that the bleeding is just happening. The GI team at the hospital were clear that it should be under control even though my gastroenterologist was much more conservative. He made me wait several weeks, until finally I took myself to the emergency room and the doctors there took over. I'm glad I went, as the bleeding was miserable.

Hey everyone,

I have very similar experiences and very recently too. TMI for sqeamish, skip ahead, straining on the toilet two weeks ago, I could see blood literaly spraying on the toilet bowl.

Fortunately, I am taking antibiotics and some hydrocortisone suppositories, and they have really turned me around in the past five days. It's a ten day treatment, so I'm going to go the full ten, and then call my doc. I couldn't walk ten days ago, and now I feel much better. Hope this helps someone.
I am a pre-30yr. old who has been diagnosed with Crohn's for 14 years.  Symptoms change from cramping and weight loss to severe anemia with fatigue and diarrhea.
