Recently I got an infection in my abscess hole area due to remicade, (at least thats what the doctors think).  The infection is gone as far as the tests show.  I usually have remicade every 6 weeks at 10mg.  I just spoke to my GI and he thinks and I agree with everything that has gone on recently to hold off on my next infusion wich is next friday.  He says I should definatly wait for the 8 weeks mark.  He also said that I should consider going to humera.  I was wondering if anyone has switched from Remicade to Humera and if they were happy with the change and if there were any sideaffects of changing or from taking humera that are different from remicade?

I switched from remicade to Humira. I don't think the humira works as well for me as the remicade used to, but the remicade stopped working for me so I had no choice. Does your GI think Remicade isn't working for you? What are his reasons for wanting you to switch? I would ask him to explain in detail so you can make a better decision. I am happy with the Humira, but only switched out of necessity.

Dreamer06: I thought most people get remicade infusions every 8 weeks. Have you always gotten your infusions every 6 weeks? Now your doc wants you to wait until the 8 week mark. Maybe that would be a more appropriate time interval for you too, should you stay on remi. Possibly a question for your doc? Good luck either way. Let us know what happens.

Stef17: how long were you on the remicade before it became ineffective for you? What happened at that point? Did typical Crohn's symptoms reappear?

Hi, my husband was on Remicade as well and was having treatments every 6 weeks as well for UC. At first he responded extremely well and was having them every 8 weeks; however after about 4 months or so, they just quit working and they had even bumped him up to 6 week treatments. The GI doc told us his body became immune to the derived antibody they use in Remicade. That's when they decided to switch him to Humira and he started it about 4 weeks ago. His 1st dose was 4 injections and then he just did another injection on the 15th. It doesn't seem to be helping him thus far, but does it take a while to kick in?? He gets really bad cramping afterwards? Does that happen for you all??? I know he has UC and not Chron's but I wasn't sure if it affected ya'll differently. Humira is our last hope before we have to consider a colectomy.
