I am beginning to wonder if Entocort is enough for me. I was diagnosed about 3 months ago, went on Pentasa prior to having a colonoscopy done, then when I had my scope done they realized my disease was more severe than it looked from the barium enema (and I reacted badly to Pentasa anyway). They put me on Entocort (9mg/day) and I have been taking it for 2 months now. The pain in my lower abdomen is gone, but I am still getting some of the pain I was having just above my belly button (this is the main area where I have always felt pain). I am not getting it as much as I used to, but I figured it should be about gone by now? I am mainly concerned because I am starting to get the nausea I used to get, just not as bad as before, and I have been going to the bathroom more as well. I also noticed that I have been bleeding quite a substantial amount again, seems to happen once or twice a week. You guys are all more experienced than I am, so do you think that the Entocort should have stopped the bleeding and stuff like that by now? I do feel better overall, but I am really sick of losing all this blood.

I use 9mg of entocort and have been for almost 3 months now. But I also take 6mp and Lialda. And when the flare started I used canasa 1x per day and cortifoam enemas 1x per day for about 6 weeks. I will have the occasional few bad days but usually it is just because my period is coming. In the past I have used pred. and begged to not use it anymore. The Entocort takes a little longer to work but I love not having the side effects.

If you are still bleeding and having problems I would put a call in to your doctor to see what he or she thinks.

I think you would ask your DR if you are wondering the question--maybe he could put you on a sister medication of Pentasa. I bet he is going to tell you that it may take up to 6mo's for it to reach full effectiveness.

I can tell you that it has been the best drug so far for me. The DR has tried twice to take me off of it and when he does my bloodwork is horrible and my swelling, D and bleeding return full force.

Good Luck!

I've been on Pentasa, and I had a really bad reaction so I can't take it. I think I am getting worse though, seems like I'm bleeding more than I used to if anything :(
