How do they know whether this from Crohn's or Lupus, any ideas?

They don't. C reactive protein can be elevated for any number of reasons including a cold, a splinter or any sort of infection or inflamation.
By itself it is not a very good test. It measures markers for inflamation but does not tell us where the inflamation is coming from.

Thanks, I knew it meant inflammation, but just wondered if because you have IBD & lupus it would automatically indicate one
or the other was flaring a little more than usual...
