Do you imbibe?
I do..frankly unless I over do it, I don't notice any difference in my symptoms.  I try not to over do it of course, usually two drinks is my limit.
I prefer red wine or vodka.
If I combine it with nasty fried bar food then all bets are off. nono

I do okay with 1-2 drinks, but really don't as much any more as the last time I did, I felt crappy the next day. But......I wasn't feeling as well as I do now, so maybe it would be different now. My husband doesn't drink anymore because alchohol gives him migraines even if he only has 1, so we pretty much are dry now.

Just read "alcohol significantly increases the risk for liver damage while taking methotrexate, so alcohol intake should be eliminated or minimized to no more than two drinks per month."

Boy am I behind. I've only had one drink since starting MTX last September. Wouldn't mind a drink occasionally and will test it out!

I haven't had a drink since diagnosis...I had a sip of my sister's smirnoff and that is about it. I was hoping to be able to have at least one bottle every now and again, but I am afraid of what it will do with all the medication I am taking and if it would be too harsh on the system.
I'm glad to hear you guys are able to do it though. I may venture into that area sometime when I'm feeling braver.

I like my alcohol to taste like fruit for the most part, so I'm not so good at parties and ball games where its mostly beer. I will sometimes drink a fruity drink at a social occasion but most doctors look at me funny when I answer the how often do you drink question with 10 - 12 drinks a year!

I've been on methotrexate for nearly 7 years, my GI okayed me to have a few drinks now and then within moderation as long as my test results were OK (like any doctor will say yes its ok to get drunk lol) throughout that time I have been drinking fairly regularly like most students lol and my liver and kidney function has remained good, obviously if anything changed I'd stop but for now I don't deprive myself. I have noticed hangovers are a lot worse though!

Man, you guys are lucky. I can't drink at all. I usually do about twice a year though. But man I have the worst pain for days and days after it.

I am with you lilchronie, just wasnt sure how to say it with out sounding like a drunk.
We are monitored so closely on these drugs, that if our kidney wasn't behaving properly it would be caught quite early & the effects are reversible.
Thus unitl it becomes a problem, I wil continue to enjoy my life & do my best not to over think things like this!

I just say no these days, not drank in many years, nothing, nada. I have friends who drink, and don't mind being around them while they drink, well until they start to fall down and tell me how much they luvs me.

I have been tempted to try an oduls, but end up thinking that a sprite or sweet tea would taste so much better.

There is just nothing like watching people get drunk, it's such a trip how everything goes right out the window, and they become "nice".

I know you just meant a couple drinks, and I envy that, it is really a good thing, be proud if you can pull it off consistently. I could never do it, when I start drinking, there is just no stopping it.

I was afraid to drink after I was first diagnosed but I have calmed down alot. Everything in moderation works best for me. Besides a margarita every now again is better than pentasa.

Since I was diagnosed at 18 (officially) I think the way I dealt with it was drinking... for a while, which in hindsight wasn't the best.. plus my crohn's would hate me for it... it was kind of a viscous cycle. I calmed down after my doc told me that my liver enzymes were elevated... he said it was rare side effect of the imuran, but still scared me. No worries.. I don't drink anymore. If anything I'll have a vodka and cranberry. Beer is just out of the question... and I have noticed that the hangovers are a hell of alot worse! haha.

I have 2 drinks a year, a Guiness on St.Patrick's day and a Margarita (extra salt) on my birthday. I could drink more, but why risk it?

when I'm not flaring, I drink 1-2 drinks a month if there is an occasion for it.  I can't drink beer anymore so my drink of choice has vodka in it.
when I am flaring, I dont touch the stuff except I forgot WHY I didn't touch the stuff and during the mariners game on tues had a cranberry vodka and have been suffering since.  =p  oh well, it was a fun night.  =)
