I was diagnosed with Crohn's in May 2008 but have probably had it for most of my life undiagnosed.  I started the Humira injections in late December 2008 and so far have had great results with no major side effects.  I was also on prednisone from May '08 until March of this year.  I was able to successfully taper off of it with my last dose on March 8 and have been fortunate to have no serious side effects from the taper.  My question is: my husband and I are wanting to start a family this year and I am wondering if anyone has been pregnant while on humira and also how pregnancy in general is with Crohns?  I have an appt with both my ob/gyn and gastro to discuss everything this week but was hoping for any advice/information from women who have actually been through it as well.  Thanks for all your help!

Search back through old posts. At least one mom here had a healthy baby while on Humira. I think it was in the winter.

I had a perfect baby girl in August. My pregnancy was wonderful and totally uneventful. Hoping for another one soon. I stayed on just Pentasa, but I'd been in remission for a few years already so I didn't need anything stronger. The best thing is to go in healthy and stay healthy. If that means meds, it's usually worth it. Your GI and OB will help with that. I breastfeed on Pentasa too, and that's been fine. Good luck!
Hoping to stay in remission after the birth of a healthy baby girl. On Pentasa during my pregnancy, went med-free 2 months to nurse (stupid), but back on Pentasa and still nursing.

I was on Humira throughout pregnancy and am now breastfeeding on it. I had a great pregnancy actually, was in remission the entire time and had a very healthy and happy big baby boy. My pregnancy was a surprise and I was worried that it wouldn't be easy for me, but besides nine months of morning sickness (meds took care of that) I did really well.

I have never taken Humira, but my one piece of advice would be to not go med free during your pregnancy :) I am a prime example of that. And I was following the Dr's orders to quit taking the Entocort. Which he is no longer my GI. I posted my story on here if you want to read what happened. But don't want to discourage anything. My son is healthy so that's the happy ending :) But good luck to you and I hope everything goes great :) :)

I took Humira during my most recent pregnancy. I switched from Remicade to Humira due to effectiveness issues. I started it in my 2nd trimester, not for any reason other than that just happened to be the timing of things (discovering the remicade really wasn't working any more).
My pregnancy was smooth and all went well with baby and the delivery.

I've had 3 healthy babies. All of the pregnancies went relatively well. I was sick as a dog for the first trimester with babies #1 and #3 - both girls. So, I don't know if coincidentally I was in a rough patch with the crohns both times or if it's true what they say about the gender of the baby affecting the pregnancy. :)

I plan on having a 4th child and I will take the Humira during that pregnancy too. I'm also breastfeeding baby #3 while on Humira. Pediatrician knows and baby is fine. If I can be of more help, please let me know.
