My son was diagnosed with cd in 07.  He has been through Pentasa, 6MP, Prednisone B12, and now he has had to move on to Humira (over a year ago).  He ABSOLUTELY hates taking the Humira.  He begs to go back on the pills, but when his doc upped the doses he started getting sick again.  So, we are stuck with the injections as long as they are working.  Recently he went on a mild antidepressant, he had lost a lot of weight but did not have any cd syptoms.  The doc thought maybe he was depressed.  His appetite did increase, that's a good thing.  However, a week ago he started having diarreah.  I don't know, is it the anti depressant, just a bug (I did have diarreah for a few days just before him) or is it the cd.  He is 17, 5'7" and weighs 130lbs.  I keep having to get him smaller and smaller pants.  His waist is down to a 30.  I want to be a support for him, and do the right things for him.  I guess maybe I just need some one who understands what he is going through and what I am going through who can talk and listen and offer advice.

Hi sorry he's having troubles. Welcome to the forum, although I'm sorry you have to be here... sad

My son is the same age as yours and was diagnosed in June of '07. Thankfully, we've been able to manage his Crohn's with a year of Asacol, major dietary changes and some key supplements. I know this doesn't work for everyone, though.

I think you'll find lots of support and helpful advice here, so stick around! I hope he feels better soon! I'm hopeful his D is a virus, since you had it prior to him!
Mom to 17 year old son diagnosed in June, 2007.
Omega 3s, digestive enzymes, probiotics, vit. C, calcium, vit. D3, a good multivitamin and SCD legal yogurt
Started The Maker's Diet in Sept. '07. Incorporate Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD) recipes, too.

Hi, I'm new here...well, for posting. I have been to this site before. My son was also diagnosed with Crohn's in the spring of 07. The dr. prescribed Pentasa, 6MP, prednisone, other meds. He was in hospital 9 days, missed much of his senior year, the Crohn's and the side effects from the medications were awful. I read and researched practically non-stop. The dr. wanted him to either do Humira or Remicade. yikes, let me look at alternatives. My son, without my knowledge stopped all medications cold turkey in the summer. He felt like utter crap taking them. I had investigated LDN and knew it was worth a shot. He started taking it and occasionally remembers to take Bvitamins or a multi and he won't take anything else and he won't follow a diet but he doesn't feel like he did. There's a yahoo group, called lowdosenaltrexone. And a site ...I'm not sure the exact address but google ldn. It really is worth a try.
good luck

Dear Mom2b sorry to hear about all your troubles but I think its safe to say that if you had the diarrhea a few days before he likely picked it up crohns patients have dampened immune system well its a auto immune disease I guess that is what I'm trying to say,its hard to say sometimes is it a bug or is it in fact his disease I say give it only 5 days if you notice he is losing more weight get him to the ER for a check up keep lots of fluids in him gatorade,broth,water,jello.7-up,boost and ensure are all good so he doesn't dehydrate and end up needing IV fluids signs of that are white under the eye lids were we put our eye liner dry mouth lips sticking together tongue rough looking and looks like a piece of sand paper and if he is thirsty chances are he is all ready dehydrated,I hope that helps you a little bite I was 13 when I found out I had crohns It really changed my life also the anti-depressant a lot of us are on them so we don't get so stressed and it helps we can all use a little help.Jenn smilewinkgrin smilewinkgrin smilewinkgrin

Hi I am new here. My daughter was diagnosed last February 2008.
She has been on pentasa, 6mp, prednisone and now is just on 6mp and has had three treatments of remicade. She was in pain all last weekend. She is 12 and it hurts for me to see her in pain. I get upset too that I don't know what to do fro her and she is very thin except that her stomach looks so big and bloated.
