Hey everyone.
First, I'm starving... Clear liquids only today and prep tonight for a scope tomorrow morning. Ugh. This will be my 2nd in six months.

Second, I'm looking for some input. I, as well as my doctor, think that my symptons are related to Crohn's. All of them are typical- pain, cramping, diarrhea, etc, etc etc. During my last scope, the biopsy showed chronic ileitis. The doctor that did that scope said that it looked like Crohns. My vitamin D levels are in the gutter. CT scan showed that my lymph nodes are enlarged, secondary to the ileitis.

The ONLY thing adding any confusion is that my antibody test come back negative for the Crohn's antibodies. Is anyone else getting a negative antibody test, with every other sign pointing at Crohn's??

I was on Lialda, but it caused me to having bleeding issues. Anyone else? Specifically, it caused bleeding of my gums, accelerated menstrual bleeding, and increased bruising. I'm suppose to start pred and 6-mp this week, dependent on tomorrow's colonoscopy.

Any feedback or similar stories?

I would ask the doc to be sure to take biopsies during your scope. I think this will be able to show if its Crohns on a microscopic level. Good luck!

Antibody tests are still uncertain at this stage I believe...there are some people who actually have a high level of the antibodies for various autoimmune disease and yet, have no sign of the disease ever. And this goes vice versa as well.
I'm sorry to hear you're unwell...hopefully you will receive the right treatment and feel better soon.

I did not show Crohn's antibodies and a had UC biopsy result but am diagnosed as Crohn's. The original dx was UC - with continuous ulceration at the first mucosal layer. As time went on my ulcers showed skip patterns (healthy tissue with scattered ulcers that were deeper). More time and now anal tags and a fistula. Hence the Crohn's dx.

Good luck with your scope tomorrow!
--female dx as UC in '04 (1st symptoms in '03), switched to Crohn's in '05, 1 fistula, crohn's colitis, limited to large intestine  --rejected (reaction/didn't work): Asacol, AZA, 6-MP, MTX, Remicade, Humira, prednisone, Tysabri
--Prochymal in Phase III study (can't wait til it's approved!)
--currently taking methylprednisolone 40mg-taper.  Started Cimzia first dose 2/10/09.  Dx Osteoporosis 10/08 started Forteo 1/27/09
