My husband has had Crohn's/U.C. for at least 25 years. As a result he had a liver transplant 12 years ago and is doing GREAT. However, diarrhea is a major problem (12-20 times a day) He had an iliostomy and that was reversed 1 year ago. That was a nightmare because he still had diarrhea so bag had to be emptied constantly. Now his bottom is so painful and red. Nothing seems to help at all. In all his years of dealing with this diarrhea, he never was troubled with the burning and pain on the skin. We think we've tried everything but are open for any help you can give. We have tha added problem that he doesn't heal very well because of all his immunosuppressants. Help. Patsy

I'm not sure what to say if you've tried everything...

I use medicated wipes with witch hazel and vagisil since both are pretty powerful topical analgesics. I have had times where it hurt so bad I couldn't walk, and either of those did the trick.

Have you tried Vaseline? Most of the time that works for me and is inexpensive.

Could he use a squirty bottle to wash himself after each bm, instead of having to scrape himself raw with toilet paper?

It is also possible to buy a toilet seat with an in-built bidet and blow drier to obviate the use of tp completely, but these can be a bit expensive.

Another problem sound like it could be what he is eating. It might be too acidic. I lived with diaper rash cream for babies on my bum and that helped me.
