Hi all.

had an appointment with surgeon today hoping to get a date for a reversal firstly went to the wrong hospital so had to dash to right one luckily the clinic was running late S o i finally get called walked in the room and it wasn't even my surgeon this bloke knew nothing about me only that i was in hossy in april i explained i had been in every month since nov!! he asked to have a look and have a feel of my tummy he said that my tummy was now nice and soft great i thought its healed and when we go back in the room he will give me a date to go in, Oh No thats to simple he never mentioned it so i did and his reply was "Oh no we can't say when it will get done carry one the way your going and we will see you in 2 months!!!NO WAY. I told him the reason for this appointment was to see if the resection site had healed and if so i'd get a date he was having none of it I am going to ring my surgeons secertary in the morning and ask for an urgent appointment to see the surgeon who has been dealing with me  all through this. im now back in the land of limbo  what would you do if you were in this situation?do you think i;m doing the right thing contacting the secertary?thanx for taking the time to read this any advice would be great Bevx cry cry cry cry

I think this is where we differ from our American friends in being less able to get to see people quickly and less choice when we do. I definitely think you should contact your surgeon's secretary and say how disappointed (good word to use followed by assertiveness if doesn't work) that you hadn't seen him and was hoping for a decision on reversal surgery date. Ideally a phone call should do it, but hospital trusts have to respond to written communication so you might need to back up with an e-mail. Was the person you saw his registrar - i.e. part of the same team? is it even the surgeon who decides whether you are ready for a reversal - or is it the gastroenterologists (medical side)? the least you should get is answers as to how and when a decision is to be made

Good luck!

Penny

I agree with Penny, I too am I the UK.  I think you should definately ring the secretary, it is what I would do. Whenever I ring the Secretary she always gets me an appointment within 2 weeks. At the hospital I have politley refused to see anyone but my usual consultant. I explain that as a patient I am entitled to a continuity of service. It usually works for me.

keep pushing and refuse to be fobbed off.

good luck

Hi Penny, thanks for your reply the bloke i saw i have never seen before. when i saw my surgeon 6 weeks ago he said "we'll make an appointment for 6 weeks and see if it has healed if so we will operate" so i was given the impression that  was what would be discussed today.  my surgeon knows how much trouble ive had from day 1 with this stoma  and how desprate iam to get rid of it so hopefully after the call tomorrow  ill get an earlier appointment. if he says i can't get it done till say october thats fine at least i have something to aim for at the mo im just hanging around its so annoying!!!!!thanx for your advice i will also put it in writing and will let you know. smilewinkgrin
