Hi all,
My CD symptoms are so different from everyone that it took me awhile to believe I had it.  I am now on Colazal and doing very well and feeling good.  Mine is mostly in my rectum and I have never lost weight.  I have needed to lose about 20 lbs and have had this extra weight on for a few years.  I have been trying very faithfully to lose it.  I eat very healthy and work out.  For the last 2 months  I have watched every morsel!  Weight watchers counting points and last 3 weeks a low carb diet.  I lost only 2 lbs and then yesterday I ate bread and weighed this am and gained 1 lb!  Any reason I can't lose weight??  My husband is losing! of course.  I eat lean meats, veggies steamed, and salads.  brown rice, fruits, veggies, all healthy.  One thing I did notice is that after not eating bread for 3 weeks and eating it yesterday, my stomach bothered me after I ate it all day.  I weigh 175, but lost 2 and gained 1 so now 174!
so I know there are alot more worse issues to worry about and alot worse things I could be having, but I just can't lose weight.  Any reason or advice?
Diagnosed with CD 3 years ago.  Refused to take meds until recently started Colazal.

Hi Dinkdee,

WOW! Lucky you. I went from 18 and 1 half stone, to 11 st 8 pounds in the space of 6 months. With regards to taking of some weight, I would suggest that you find a Diet that works for you. Also, start some light expercise and steadly increase it. With weight loss, it is hard work, but you will get their with patients and hard work. With regards to your food intake, I would suggest that you forget about counting the cals as this does no good. Enjoy what you can eat, but don't eat to much. Eat less more often. And in between meals, I would suggest that you eat your fruit then. Don't be ascared to get up and walk about after any meal that you may have, as this will help burn the cals for you. Remember the more active that you are the better you loss the weight. After all sitting down after a meal allows it to sit in yout tummy and turn into fat.

Just saw an article about obesity and vitamin D deficiency. It does not claim proof of the connection, but the number of associations between the two is interesting. For more, see: Vitamin D Council

Hi There dinkydee,

I know what you are going through with the weight loss issues.  I used to be a normal healthy weight and then I lost about 20lbs and remained there for about 2 years.  Then all of the sudden I started gaining like there was no tomorrow.  It was completely frustrating b/c there was no explanation for it other than "age"...and I was only 25.  I put on about 40lbs which put me about 20lbs above my normal weight.  Then I started to get sick to my stomach all the time and  massive D.  The real kicker...I kept gaining weight.  I finally went to my Dr. and I was like "How is it possible that I keep gaining weight when it seems that none of my food stays in me".  For this they offer no explaination.  A few blood tests and biopsies later I was DX wtih Celiac Disease and PCOS.  They figured that the PCOS was making me gain weight despite a malabsorbtion issue.  My health briefly leveled out and I stopped gaining but was not ever really able to lose more than 5 lbs.  Go forward 4 years later and I am sick again and Dx with Crohn's.  I am still overweight by about 25lbs and I am deficient in lots of vitamins which means malabsorbtion issues...yet my weight is still there.  The only thing that took weight off of my we prednisone...which is completely opposite of what they say it does to you.  I suspect that I had weight loss while on prednisone b/c of inflammation or something.  In any event, I am now on a path to get my vitamins in check and I am hoping that it may help to resolve the issues with weight.  I of course eat a healthy diet and I exercise moderatly when I can.  I could exercise more but it does not help I swam for 2 hours every morning for months and saw not a lick of weight come off.  I was just more toned.  Sorry I don't have the magic cure but I just wanted to let you know you are not alone with your struggle.

All the Best

To me, it is the old clich'e - Be careful what you wish for! 10 months ago, I was a size 8 and thought that I did not fit in. Now, I am a size 0, and look horrible. Trying to gain weight. I look back at my heavier pictures and I was hot!! At least to me. Now, I look sickly and I am embarrassed. All I know is that right now, it is all about me. Heavy, light, it's my life. I just want to be happy.

It will take a while, everybody seems to think that because they eat good and exercise for a month that they will lose weight or have big muscles and they give up. Keep doing what your doing for a couple of mothns and see if there are any results or if other people notice any changes.
