Hello guys, first post here :)
My name is Vladimir and I'm from Croatia. I'm 24 and finishing my studies. In my spare time I rock climb :-)
I have Crohn's since 2003. but had no surgery till now.
Currently I have a stenosis of the end part of my ileum (5 cm long, 3 mm) and a small fistula.
For now my doctor is advising against surgery due to the fact that I'm able to eat, poop and fart without any problems (no pain, no blood etc..). So far I've only been on cortical steroids (which always calm the flare up but dont get it in remission) and Pentasa.
Now I'm also on Imuran for about 2 weeks so I guess a lot more time needs to pass before I see any possible effects from it.
whats my question? in 3 to 4 day i'm meeting with my doctor and I'd like to be armed with some suggestion for further therapy :)
I know my state is quite serious and I'm most certanly going to end up on the surgical table but I ain't going down without a fight :)
so far i've read that a baloon dilatation is a possible solution for my stenosis but dont know much about it... anyone has any experience with it or knows anything about it?
for the fistula i've read that remicade is a good solution... did i read right? and are there any other medicaments that could help me?
sorry for my english, it was a long time since I've used my written English :-)   and tnx for the help in advance ;)

Hello and Welcome, but I'm sorry you need to be here. You are correct that Imuran will take time to work, usually about 3 months or so. Remicade may help the fistula, but there are some antibiotics that might help too, Flagyl is one, not sure if Cipro helps too. I have had 3 resections for strictures, but no dialations, so I am no help in that area. If your problem is active disease the Imuran may help if you give it enough time, but if it is caused by scar tissue then no amount of medication will heal it and surgery will be your only solution. Time will tell you on that one.

By the way, my brother in law moved to Zagreb last fall. His wife is from Croatia. Someday we hope to visit, he tells us its beautiful, but they only have a one bathroom apartment!!!

Managing with strict low residue diet, keeping symptoms to a minimum. All test show small amount of ulceration, still have occasional blockages. But still have a great time with my 2 daughters and husband!

Hi Escalador,

I don't have anything to add to what Zanne said, but I did want to welcome you to Healingwell. And your english was just fine.
