Has anyone ever experienced or heard of blisters around the anal region associated with crohn's.  I have had this happening for about a year now.  It started inbetween the buttocks at first with a cluster of blisters that itched, burst and then left a crater type scabs...just an ulcer type of sore that healed eventually.  I have been on LDN and it seems to be happening more often now and the last one was more severe with an initial cluster between the buttocks closer to the anus that itched horibbly and when scratched immediatly caused more blisters that spread up and down the crack...whereever I scratched essentially.  I know Crohn's is associated with many skin conditions and I have had crohn's for 30 years now.  I know it sounds like maybe herpes...because that is what comes up when I type in my symptoms...but I don't know how that could be possible.  Though I am on LDN I am not in remission and didn't know if it could be something in my stool causeing a reaction.  I just had some new ones come out around my anus.  Any ideas?

I do not have any answers for you, but I thought we had someone on the forum recently that had something similar. Have you tried our search or even called your doctor about this? I wish you good luck and will be interested to hear what caused it.

The first thing that occurs to me is some bacterial agent on the skin. Have you tried a topical antibiotic like bactroban (possibly a prescription med)? It may be that you have antibodies to a bacteria that is common to the surface skin in that area and any minor damage triggers an immune response by exposing the bacteria to immune cells below the skin surface. You could even try rubbing alcohol or vinegar to sterilize the area (but it will irritate tender mucosa near there). I expect that the bacteria are also found in the gut and migrate through that area due to damp conditions and regular movement.

belle, if I was experiancing that I'd be at the GI's office in a heartbeat, I hope you are able to get it checked out ASAP, it doesn't sound like something that should be left unattended.

I'd rule out herpes first, even if you don't think it's possible, you never know. Even if you don't think it's possible, herpes is really common, and something like 80% of people never even have an outbreak who have it, from what I just googled. It's a simple blood test, so it might be easier to rule it out first and have the peace of mind, to me. I haven't seen anyone else post anything similar on the forums yet, and have not experienced this myself either, but I may have missed it. Good luck.
