From what I read in "Beat Crohn's! Getting to Remission with Enteral Nutrition", there are 3 kinds of formulas you can use:
*Elemental: formulas containing amino acids, the most basic building blocks of protein, these also tend to have the most carbohydrates
*Semi elemental formulas contiaining small peptides (amino acids linked together in short chains) or a mixture of small peptides and amino acids
*Polymeric formulas contain whole protein (made up of long chains of peptides) these also tend to have the most fat
They differ in the form of the protein they provide. Our GI recommended we start with the elemental one (Peptamen Jr) or a very simple semi elemental (Vital Jr) which are easier to digest, giving the gut less work.
BUT according to the book I read, studies show that the three kinds of formula are equally effective in inducing remission.
All the formulas I found were "smoothie" like.
Has somebody tried one that is juice like? If so, what brand?
