Do they use colazal to treat crohn's ? It seems like more people here are on the heavier meds like Humira, prednisone etc..... I was diagnosed with diverticular colitis back in Jan of 09 and my prometheus test that I got my pcp to order came back as positive for crohn's. I have not been doing that well lately. I wonder if my doc would want to see me and change my meds if he knew my test was positive. I think I will fax it to them to make sure they received it. My pcp was supposed to send it to them back in May. I never heard back from the GI.

Yes, some people with Crohn's in their colon have taken or are taking Colazal. As you know, Colazal is formulated to release in the colon. There has been some evidence that the "topical" meds like Colazal, Pentasa, and Asacol don't really bring about healing of the intestinal mucosa. If you aren't doing well, before you get worse, you might want to get into see your GI.

I have been on colazal since my dx. Mostly it seems to work for me, but I have had the occasional flareup. I was dxd with crohn's colitis. My recent scope though showed uc so I'm not sure what it is. I got dxd with c-diff shortly after my scope and wonder if it wasn't there affecting that scope.
Dxd CD in 2003. Scope Aug/09 shows UC.
Meds: Colazal, prednisone, vancomycyn, prilosec, darvocet, bentyl
Currently in bad flare-up

I have been on Colazol but now the generic for a couple of years now, 9 caps a day. Also, a Metcaptopurine tablet daily for which I need a blood test every three months.
The combination seems to be working so far. Fingers crossed. Had Crohns since early 20s was misDX, now 65. From what I have read I am lucky. To date no surgerys.
Been several months since a minor flare.
Had Crohns' since I was in my early twentys and now am 65 years old. On Mercaptopurine 50mg and Balsalazide 750 mg. I am lucky from what I have been reading. No bowel resection yet and it has been a while since a flare.
