It's been awhile since I've visited our forum.  I've missed all the great advice and shared experiences.  I had surgery 2-weeks ago for an inguinal hernia.  I get to have surgery again next week for a new abdominal wall hernia that was caused by the first hernia repair.  I also have C-Diff - again.  I'm sure I'm not alone in having to get a 2nd surgery caused by the first.  Anybody else have a similar situation?  confused    My GI doc is also wanting me to switch over to Cimzia.  I've been on Humira for a couple of years now.  I'm not sure I'm wanting to make any changes right now.  What do you think?
Crohn's Disease.
Diagnosed 13+ years ago.
Been in remission for short periods of time but each time I come out of remission my disease seems to have spread.  No longer isolated in my ileum, now from stomach down to rectum.
Current Medications for the Crohns:  Humera 40mg injections every other week, Imuran 150mg, 3xday, Hyomax, Welchol 625mg, Calcium, Acidophilus & Potassium
Previous Medications I've been on:  Asocal, Pentasa, Cipro, Prednisone, Flagyl, Vancomycin & Entocort

My experience isn't exactly the same but I'll share. I had a hysterectomy then 8 weeks later my appendix out ...then a re-section not to long after. Well, the resection came apart about 12 hours after I had to go back in for another surgery and was in ICU for 10 days. After C-diff and landed back in the hospital for another week. 4 months later it was obvious I was getting a hernia. It was probably about the size of a hot roller right around my belly my regular M.D. watched it a couple months and later turned out to be the size of a softball. So, then it was time for yet another surgery.
Heads general surgeon who did the surgery said I qualified for the "pig skin" instead of a plastic peace of grid that they usually put in for repair of hernias.  I asked her, "how would I have known to even ask for this"..she said with Crohns, and my allergies I would qualify for it. I asked her why would someone even get a piece of "plastic"...she said costs. Ask for the pig skin! I have heard of some stories of people having this "plastic grid" put in for hernias and their body rejects it!
My surgery went off great! Really no problem at all. Looks much better. I have had 12 abdominal surgerys and really need ONE surgery to go good! HA!
Good Luck
