Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but how do I know if I have a skin tag or a hemorrhoid? I hadn't even heard of anal skin tags until I got diagnosed, but I did noticed I had a small flap of skin on my anus (gross!). Now, I have itchiness and bleeding- can that be just a skin tag or a hemorrhoid? I bought some hemorrhoid cream, but when i put it on, it kind of stung.

Also, I've read that some people's skin tags have shrunk from Remicade. Is that common? I'm on it, but haven't noticed a difference in that area.

Not a stupid question....I have perianal crohn's skin tags, the only time I had bleeding was from fissures on and around the skin tags...I've also hear that remi can shrink up perianal crohn's skin tags, and that cortifoam rectal meds can as well.

You should have your GI check out your anus to see if it's perianal crohn's skin tags/hemmies and then he should be able to give you treatment for it/them.

Here's a link that shows pics of both hemmies (first set of pics) and perianal crohn's skin tags aka; elephant ears (set of pics below the hemmie pictures...

http://www.emedmag.com/html/pre/fea/features/011504.asp

Hemmies are completely different from perianal crohn's skin tags, but some people get anal tags from shrunken hemmies which is why it's best to see your GI.

Thanks, pb4. Honestly, I still can't really tell from the pics what it is I have. So, I may have my GI check if they are still bugging me.

I'm not that thrilled about having my GI check out stuff down there- not that he didn't see it when I had my colonoscopy, but then I wasn't conscious at the time!

Hey October...pb4 is good advice. I just wanted to add about the itching thing. My tags itch terribly at the base. It seems to be when I have little tears at the base and I am always guessing that the itching is the healing of the tiny tears. Hot water soaks help to keep the itching down. The itching really is my worst symptom for the last couple of years.

Great Discussion - I too have something that seems like a tag and I know thatI have
Hemmis too.

Question: My Dr's tell me they do not remove Hemmis/tags on Crohns or UC patients.

Anybody else get told this?

I agree they are annoying! I don't feel so alone:>
