Hi - Just wondering if anybody else has had a run in with H1N1. I have been very sick for two weeks and now
Crohns/UC mostly UC is totally out of control.

If you have not had H1N1 believe me wash your hands and stay away from sneezing coughing people miles away. I have
had upper respitory infections, pneumonias and flus in the past but this one is really bad almost evil. No it is
evil I am convinced. I don't usually get colds when my Crohns/UC is active and in auto-pilot.

Is there any good reading material about H1N1 and Crohns/UC?

Let me know. Thanks

My 5 year old just got over it. It was not that bad for her. I was given the Tamiful - so far so good! She was the only one in the house to get it. She still has a cough. I can see how the cough could turn into something worse for someone who is not as healthy (people with Crohn's like us). Hope you feel better soon!

Last spring my husband traveled to Mexico City for his Job. When he got back within 4 days he called me from work and said he had made a Dr. appt for that afternoon. I asked him what was going on because he NEVER goes to the Dr. He said he was really dizzy, terrible headache, fever, body achy and nausea...just something wasn't right.
He went to the Dr. and they prescribed a pretty heavy antibiodic and he was under the weather for a good 2 weeks. It was nothing to mess around with! ..really bad virus/flu. I really don't think the antibiodic helped...just time and a good immune system.
Anyway, a week later...I came down with it. I ran a fever for a week and sat on the coach and stared at the ceiling in pain! It came on pretty fast and beacause I have Crohns my fever didn't get as high as my husbands. I took Theraflu constant with ibuprofen (and crohns no no!) for a couple weeks. Eventually it went into my lungs. Asthma, Bronchitis set in and I went to the Dr. twice in that first week. Finally she gave me a steroid pack but first a shot. Next day sat around and cried alllll day. I think it was tooo much steroid at once. It took me all of Spring to really feel better....then straight into 10 weeks of Shingles.
We really didn't know much about H1N1 at that time my husband came back from Mexico. It was a week after he came back that they stopped travel to Mexico. No looking back I think we were exposure to H1N1...we don't know for sure but, it makes sense now.

Thanks for the responses:

Flowery I really appreciate your feedback. I am in the Great state of Minneosta where 6 pigs have gotten H1N1 at our state fair.
I think I have the mutated version of H1N1. I was laid off last year & my health care ran out. I had one course of antibiotics which saved me from drowning.
(no exageration) I am starting to go down hill again. The state flu line told me to call my Dr for more antibiotics but my dr will not do it with no insurance.

I am scared. I am not coughing as much - everthing seems to be secondary infections. Really weird symptoms. I may even have a fistula going on or my
entire imune system is (sorry gross) leaking/draining. I sleep a lot eat healthy drink A LOT of water. I am lucky that I can stay at home but on the other hand I am losing everything.

I need to find a job on verge of losing home and everything. WING AND A PRAYER. My day consists of
looking for a job eating and sleeping. What if I get an Interview? Will I be too sick? I can't even get out of bed.

If I get over this stuff it will be at least several months. Right now I am so tired. Headache, backache., sore lungs.all the uc and crohns symptoms in the world.

Everybody: Wash your hands - cough in your sleeve - stay away from people with sniffles or sore throat. Please stay home if you get it. I know it is hard but
this stuff is really really bad. Thanks

Prayers Please - Thanks again.

Prayers sent. It sounds like you're in such a tough situation right now. I'm sure things will get better. Once you get a couple of job offers, things will start turning around.
My daughter was diagnosed Feb. 19/07, (13 yrs. old at time of diagnosis), with Crohn's of the Terminal Illium. Has used Prednisone and Pentasa. Started Imuran (02/09), had an abdominal abscess (12/08). 2cm of Stricture.

darn LuckyStar, I am in the same boat. My company went out of business. I am looking for work with my unemployment running out in a month. No insurance. I am too sick from Crohn's to reasonably hold down a job. I don't have H1N1 though. Any I pray I dont get it. Well, you are in my prayers. I take Entocort and am wondering if it is knocking out my immune system to the point where I might get super sick from H1N1. Best of luck.

My thoughts and prayers are with you! I hope you get better fast, and find a new job soon. My son had H1N1 back in September. He was pretty bad off, as it does really seem to hit the little kids hard. He had pneumonia after only 3 days of having the Flu. We were all put on Tamiflu, he was also on antibiotics and inhalers. It was a scary week for us all. I did not catch it, but it really does worry me. I didn't even really want to go out and Trick or Treat with our son tonight (the idea of going door to door). But my son having already had it helps him, I just watched from the curb! I'm doing loads of hand washing, and trying to stay away from crowds of people whenever I can. But there is only so much you can do unfortunately. Sure wish the shot was more available where I am.

I'm in Minnesota too! I heard about the pigs at the State Fair. Kinda scarey to think of the circle of this swine flu. I wonder what will happen in the Spring! I wonder if this flu will mutate? It
I know I don't have it posted but, I also suffer from PTSD. I wonder if it goes along with Crohns? seems many people on this website have both. Where in Minnesota are you from? you can e-mail me if you don't want to post it.
Keep your chin up! Sounds like if you've lasted this long you might be over the worst of it. Just watch the pneumonia. They can't deny you medicine just because you don't have insurance!
I'm not working either. Lost my job due to Crohns. We had to claim chapter 7 because of my illness and bills, and moving here about 5 years ago. Just before the housing market fell. Not been a very good year for us. Fortunatley, we were able to keep our house. Life is just tough sometimes however, doesn't take long to look around and find someone worse off. With PTSD you have to focus on the positive!
I was also diagnosed with Diabetes a month ago. Been difficult to control both but I'm trying to pull through.
Take Care ...your in my prayers
