My husband and I are trying to get pregnant. My local doctor, Mayo Clinic doctors and my OB have reassured me that remicade will be okay with pregancy, but I am wondering how remicade affects the conveiving and ovulation. I received my last treatment during the week of my ovulation, and I did not ovulate (which was not normal). I have a feeling this will happen again for my next treatment and a huge part of me wants to wait a week or two after for my remicade.

Any insight, advice, etc.

PS -- I have been on Remicade since 2003-Sept 2008 and reintroduced to it in Jan 2009 without any major problems.

To me I have found so many doctors have so many different opinions regarding ANY crohns med and pregnancy it seems. Some say okay to Imuran, some not and so on....My docs said they didn't want to put me on Remicade if I EVER wanted to get pregnant again, so my docs won't put me on. However pregnancy is not a part of any of my plans again soon as I just had one and one is enough. So I think you might get alot of differing opinions on the matter...
however GOOD LUCK with your plans and hopefully you do get the child you want! Keep the board informed as lots of women here of course can help you along the whole way with advice.

I have had 2 remicade babies and and 1 Humira baby. (started Humira in the 2nd trimester ). All are healthy, intelligent kids.

If you search the threads here you will find a gazillion posts on Remicade and pregnancy. I think it's very possible that the remicade infusion caused you not to ovulate. Remicade has TNF-a which is an anti-inflammatory. When you ovulate you need the "stuff" that causes inflammation. That is what allows the "thing" to burst and the follicle to be released. So scientifically, it IS possible for the TNF-a to keep that from happening. Sorry I'm not more scientific in my terms. I read an article on it once and wish I could cite my source, but if you google it you might find it. If you want to make sure that you ovulate then wait to ovulate and then get your remicade treatment - even the next day. Just ovulate first. We're actually TTC #4 and I did that last month when it came time for my Humira shot. I waited to make sure that I ovulated and THEN got my shot.

Feel free to email me if you'd like. I'm no expert, but I've been-there, done-that so I'd be happy to offer up any info I have.

I had no issues with concieving while on remicade. Actually we got pregnant the FIRST try literally. I also continued my treatments every 8 weeks throughout my pregnancy. My daughter is almost 14 months old and perfectly healthy and happy with NO issues at all~!!!!! :))

I am currently pregnant and was on remicade at the time of conception, and still on remicade.  I was told that Crohns patients sometimes have a harder time conceiving then a non-crohn's patient, but I did not expierence that issue.
