Hi there,
I am currently diagnosed with chronic colitis/possible Crohn's, so I'm guessing this is the forum I need to put this in.
I am currently on Lialda 2x/day.
I've been having less diarrhea and mucus, thankfully, but the last day or two I've been seeing a fair amount of blood.  Like, enough to tint the water.  And my actual stools look almost black.  Is this something I need to get checked immediately?  My GI doctor is 2 hours away, so I'm not real sure what to do at this point.
Thanks for any help you might have for me.  :)

For me, when the water is tinted red it happens because of hemroids (not actual intestinal bleeding) which, in my case, is not a big deal. When I get the black stuff that looks like coffee grounds that's blood ... and a lot of that means it's time for me to see the GI.

You need to see your GI this week at the latest and get a CBC done. Black stool is usually from digested blood from the small intestine. It usually takes about 150ml of blood to turn it black. I have been there many times.

If you feel very weak and lightheaded before you can see your GI please go to the ER.

Thank you both for your replies. :) coffee grounds, do you mean the whole thing looks like that, or just specks in it? Because I've had a LOT of the specks lately, but I didn't think much of it.....
