I recently heard that safer, more targetted steroids are being developed. Does anybody know their names and whether any are available yet?

One of course is entocort - this delivers mostly to the small intestine, and is very minimally systemically absorbed.

There is one in development called colal-pred. The last time I checked, this was is stage 3 testing. This one delivers prednisone to the colon, and like entocort is very minimally systemically absorbed.

I don't know of any others.

I was on entocort for awhile (about 5 months) and never had any negative side effects either than a bit of a swollen face... it was really good for me. I'm scared of the harsher ones :(

I remember when I came out of my 20 year remission I was shocked that the meds hadn't changed much at all. Now there is Entocort, 6mp/Imuran and all the biologics. I was treated for that first flare after remission with the same meds, Pred and Pentasa that I had used in 1980, later changed to Asacol. We really do need more research for our disease. JMHO
