Hello friends:
I am 37 years old, and have a life insurance on me taken a year ago, before I was diagnosed with Crohns (March 2009). I now want to increase the amount, not to an astronomcal amount, but say from 250k to 500k. My questions are:
1) Would this be possible, or will my insurance company deny this new increased amount, even if I'm willling to pay the higher premium?
2) Has anybody had success increasing their Life Insurance (LI) amount after dx with Crohn's?
3) Can they do anything to my existing coverage, if I open such discussions with my LI agent and I tell them that I have CD?
4) Any other advice on how to proceed with this discussion?
Thanks and hope you are having as nice a day as a Crohn's patient can!

I tried to get life insurance not too long after diagnosis, and was told that nobody would even consider giving me a policy within 1 year of diagnosis, I think you may run into something similar if you try to make a change. I have no idea if they can revoke your existing policy if they find out about your CD, I'd like to think not.
CD since July 2007 - prenatal vitamins, vitamin D, fish oil, flax oil, Flora-Q probiotics, pescetarian healing diet
DM T1 since January 2008 - Apidra via OmniPod

two things,  i looked last year and ws told i could get insurance but it would be "standard" rates which is not cheap but better than rated.  Unfortunately i did not take out a new policy.  then this year while i was in the middle of getting a new policy (had the nurse scheduled to visit my house for my work up) i had a blockage an was in the hospital.  When i told the agent about it he talked to the underwriters.  they said no policy at all for at least 12 months.  the interesting thing is crohn's is not a life threating illness like high blood preasure can be.  Yes it is nasty but people donot drop dead from crohn;s.  I told the agent to tell the underwriter i should be the customer they want as the doctors know everyhting about my health and what i do to maintain it!!!  UGHHHHHHHH eyes

Life/health insurance is tricky as I've been learning over recent months and although I still have much to learn I wouldn't doubt that research would help you find an insurance company willing to take the risk. Crohn's is a tough one, but if smokers can get insurance, anyone should be able to shouldn't they????

Best of Luck
