I was diagnosed with Crohn's disease in 2003 and had a surgery to remove a foot of my small intestine in 2004.  Although I occasionally have a flare and also mild joint swelling, things have gone fairly well for me until recently.
For the last month, I have had severe joint pain and severe swelling in my ankles and wrists.  When I say every joint hurts, I mean every one.  Even the palms of my hands.  My heart rate is now at 140 (resting) and I have also developed a rash behind both of my ears.
My doctor gave me a meth pack and it worked while I was on it,  but now is back with a vengence.  I have also started the familiar run to the bathroom 10 times a day.
Can I just say that I'm scared.  I don't want to go through this again.  I feel guilty complaining because I know many of you have been doing much worse.  I guess I just need to say that I am frustrated.
My question is if anyone has had this connection with joints, rapid heart rate and this rash.  I'm  also increasingly tired (which my husband and children can't seem to understand).

Are you on one of the Anti-TNF? Granted steriods can do this too, but please go get checked out. Your heart rate sound not be that high.

I have Crohn's Colitis and have had (as some of my symptoms) joint pain (especially in my wrists and feet) and skin rashes. I have had episodes of rapid heartbeats but either chalked it up to extreme anxiety or some of the medications I was taking at the time (prednisone, etc).

I hope you are feeling better! Are you currently on medication now?

I am currently not on any medications for maintenance but I am taking vicodin and a heart medicine they just started me on last week called propranolol. It has helped some, but the heart rate is still over 110 most of the time I take it.

I called my doctor and they are going to run some tests. I think it may be time to face the facts that I need to take some drugs for maintenance.

Thanks for all of your suggestions and concerns.

My heart rate is through the roof every time I've had to go into the ER due to a flare. The last time triage got all in a tizzy and hooked me up to the EKG and such because my heart rate was 140 - 160.

No rashes though, and only a few stiff joints. I hope your doc can help you out soon.

All your symptoms are possibly due to an adrenal crisis likely brought on by stopping prednisone or some other steroid without enough of a taper. It is also possible that you suffer from Addison's disease instead of Crohn's (or as well as??) - the two can be confused. Definitely take this to your doctor for followup. Have a look at the symptoms on the link here:
