First off Keeper, stool softners are not laxatives, and I have my GI's okay to take these. Stool softners ARE NOT laxatives. They just draw water to the stool to help make them softer and easier to pass.
Ouch101 I take a generic stool softer called Docusate Sodium USP 250 mg. Brand name would probably be Colace. Again these are NOT laxatives, but just soften the stool. And for the cramps don't suffer, use the Bentyl to help when needed.
And yes the colonoscopy is usually the one of the best tests to diagnose Crohns. Make sure the doc does biopsies. Just push thru the prep, its not pleasant, but its necessary. Its the worst part of the colonoscopy, the prep. But you are sedated for the scope and its over before you know it. Good luck!
