Hi everyone.  I have crohn's disease and right now i think i'm having some sort of partial bowel obstruction.  I'm trying to wait it out.  I've had this many times before.  I know when it's time to actually go to the hosptial.  Anyway my gi doc prescribed me lomotil he said for cramping and diareah.  My question is...If i don't actually have diareah but am having severe cramping and pain can i still take the lomotil?  Also i take xanax.  Can i take them together?  Thanks in advance.

Lomotil has two components - an opioid (diphenoxylate hydrochloride) which relieves diarrhea; and atropine, a muscle relaxant. Opiods also act as pain relievers, so that won't do any damage.

about taking xanax - it's best you talk to a pharmacist.
Diagnosed with CD July 2007
Currently on Remicade, Imuran, probiotics, folic acid, multivitamin.
Resection December 2009

Hi, i would go to your pharmacy and check this out I was on Lomotil which was great for D but when the hospital found i had strictures in the small bowel i was told to come off them straight away. they gave me codine for the D a from then on which done nothing and oramorph for the pain, but since I've had this temp stoma i take loperomide to slow things down but hopefully once i have it reveresd i will ask to go back on to Lomotil i found that to be fab! Hope you get it sorted soon Bev xx

If you think you are suffering a partial obstruction I would contact your doctor about taking Lomotil.  I think it may make the obstruction worse.  Call your doctor about this.
