I'm Michelle, I used to come onto this forum quite alot when I was first diagnosed but as time went by, I tried to manage by myself and depression and lots of family happenings got the best of me.
I think the last posts I wrote on here were about after I had my resection about 2 years ago.
Since then my CD has improved although still had some flare ups in between, and am now trying to control all my medication etc.
Although some days it seems hard to do, when I'm stressed especially, I have good days and bad days, but have to admit that I dont see myself in as many embarrassing situations (having accidents in shopping centres etc) as much as I used to.
I have been seperated now for almost 2 years, I dont think my "ex" (or hopefully soon to be ex!!) really understood what I was going through at the time and didnt make it any easier on me! Since the seperation I met a really nice guy that actually cares and just knows when I'm having a bad day and is extremely helpful which takes alot of pressure off me.

I am still battling with the dreaded Diarrhoea but I suppose thats one thing that will not change for me, regardless of what medication I take .
I think the biggest problem for me atm other than the constant episodes of having to take myself off to the toilet is the itchiness I'm still getting, and I also have a hernia from the resection which on some days sticks out so much that I have had to buy a bigger size trousers for the waist to fit, as I can look about 8 months pregnant, especially when my stomachs not too good aswell.

I am currently not on any prednisone and havent been for about 16 months now.
Current medications
Pentasa (4- 3x a day)
Cocodomols (prn but need to take them atleat 3 x a day to help with the Diarrhoea)
loperamide (prn- but seem to have to take them every day and atleast 8 a day!)
Questran or Colestramine as it is known in some places (now gone on to the Questran Light to see if it helps me better)
Calcium tablets
Levothyroxine (for thyroid)
Ferrous Sulphate (for anaemia)
B12 injections (every 3 months)

I dont think I've missed any medication...although my son sees me taking them and calls me a druggy!!!!

The one thing that I am uncertain about that the doctors seem to not say much on, is does a hernia affect CD, as it is where the resection was done, and one specialist did say that maybe part of the intestine was caught in the hernia??
And I sometimes when i cough too hard or am having a bad day I seem to get like a twisting feeling like my insides are turning over???? Dont know if anyone else has experienced anything like that too!
The doctor said as long the hernia is not too uncomfortable it is not needed to be operated on, but at what point would you call a hernia when you have CD, and your stomach bloats up already not uncomfortable?!

Its good to be back around, in a way I think I missed reading the posts, and knowing that there are people out there with the same things, and sharing experiences, opinions and knowledge.

Thanks to everyone in the past who helped me through when I was first diagnosed and thank you to those in the future for the posts you all write, whether it be subject related or not!

Hi Michelle and welcome back. I hope you can stay in touch more often now. It sounds to me like you need to have some tests done to find out if you're having a problem right now whether the hernia is involved or not. I had a ten day stay in the hospital last year because my small intestine was twisted and I didn't have any reason for it to twist up. I guess my guts just like to get tied in knots, but the docs did straighten me out (lol).

I hope you can get your discomforts straightened out real soon. Don't forget to let us know and stop by and say hi more often than every 2 years. :-)

I feel a whole lot more the way I do now than I did a little while ago.

Hi Az and thanks for the welcome back!
I will try and make it abit more than every 2 years....this site is very helpful in alot of ways...it brings humour to a horrible disease and a lot of useful information.
You said you had a "twist" in your intestines, did you have the feeling like your intestines were turning or was it just like a flare up??
I have got another doctors appointment next week which hopefully I will be able to speak to her about the hernia as well the medication changes I am now on.
I am currently having to keep a diary of bowel movements etc, so maybe I should include any twisting sensations in with that as well, as it does seem to fall in with my "bad" days.
Sorry to hear you were in hospital for 10 days with the twist, and hope all is better now for you.

pruritis and inflammation are related. Have you tried an antihistamine yet? also get a check on your potassium level in next blood test. perhaps avoid the high potassium foods for awhile to see if your body will readjust your electrolytes. Try different salt intakes as well.
As far as the pentasa ,,is it in the form of the tiny beads in capsule?,,if so, I had terrible itch from that.
The twisting feeling is not a good sign in that mabe your bowel is attached somewheres. perhaps when you lay down, elevate your feet in that the bowel is influenced to slide towards your rib cage so that it has a chance to, for lack of better word, unravel. So the bowel completely relaxes. When it does it should begin normal peristalsis. My guess you are on your feet alot. Hopefully that is it and it will detach if is is sticking.
I dont know if the hernia and the bloating are synonymous at this point.

Welcome back! I'm glad to hear that things seem to be better for you now than they once were. The stress of a bad relationship probably was making things worse for you. Hopefully this new guy will stay supportive and help keep your stress down. I've found that the more I'm stressed, the worse I feel, so I try to not get myself in nonsupportive relationships as they just make me physically unwell.

I've never had a hernia, so I don't have experience with it and don't know about the pain it causes, so I'm sorry to say I can't offer any advice there. Check back with us after seeing your doctor and let us know how it goes!
