I continue to go through diagnosis. I got the results from the Colonoscopy today and it included Acute Ileitis and Melanosis Coli. The comments on the reports says "NSAID related injury" is favored re the Acute Ileitis, except I did not take any meds before this. I am increasing the Pentasa and starting a antibiotic to address potential infection.

I looked up and saw that Melanosis Coli is mostly caused by long term use of laxatives and I have never taken laxatives much less long term. Doc asked me 3 times re taking the laxatives and I do not think she really believed me when I said no.

So bottom line is the colonoscopy report says that I have symptoms caused by long term NSAID and laxative use and I have taken neither. Doc is treating for Crohn's and and possible infection. I still do not have a definitive diagnosis.

I have had a CT, upper GI and colonoscopy in addition to a number of blood tests. The doc has just asked for a IBD blood work up followed by Cailic screening if IBD comes back negative.

It seems like I have a complicated case or at least one that is tough to diagnose.

Any thoughts or comments are most welcome

Thank you

No ideas, just sympathy. I'm familiar with diagnostic limbo, and it's the pits.

My husband was diagnosed with Melanosis Coli too. The GI had put him on a laxative for the three weeks prior to the procedure then said it was from long term laxative use. She said he had to have been taking laxatives for longer than the three weeks and didn't seem to believe him when he denied it.

My doc tried to blame my ileitis on NSAIDS but I was able to convince him that I hadn't taken any in the two months prior to the colonoscopy so he reconsidered.

I really hate when they won't listen.
