I had my scope yesterday and they said I had "some" inflammation in my sigmoid colon but it looked better than last year. They said it was just red and inflammed looking. The diverticulum looked ok. They were going to up my colazal to 9 pills a day from 8 pills a day. Hello, what did they think one more pill a day was going to do after 8 weren't cutting the mustard! So, they put me on lialda. I see that not too many people are on this b/c of cost. I hope my insurance covers it and that it works. They also didn't think using rectal meds would help much. I think they are still confused and hoping the biopsy results will show something.
So, my question to the forum is can they always tell if you have crohn's or UC from the scope or do they sometimes have to wait for the biopsy? They seem to put a lot of faith on what they see via the scope and said right now my inflammation was mild and only in the sigmoid colon. The enterography showed more inflammation in the descending colon. I wonder why the discrepancy? Has this happened to many other?
I do feel somewhat better than I did a year ago, that is for sure. It's just that they sounded like things were not all that severe and I've had a pretty bad bleeding episode about a month ago.
Regardless, I just hope this lialda helps and I am going to double my VSL #3 to two doses a day. The practitioner did not want me to take rectal meds b/c they want to see how the lialda works. You know, I'd think they would want us to just get better regardless. We are not guinea pigs!
Ok, so I am grumpy after my ordeal yesterday. it went well though, so I am pleased to have it over with at least. Thanks for listening to me vent.
