Okay... so I thought I would let you guys know what the Rheumatoid Dr said today.  I have had very bad leg pains since starting prednisone last May.  Its not getting better and I'm now on Remicade. ?  This was my second Rheumatologist for the third appt.  First one couldn't figure it out.  He said that it is not Remicade antibodies causing the pain bc I would also have upper extremity problems which I don't.  He said that it was probably due to my crohn's flaring up and not totally being in control.  CRP was above 2.  He said that the pain is due to inflammation in the joints from Crohns.  He put me on sulfasalazine to control the inflammation.  I'm still not convinced.  IDK.
Current meds:  Remicade and probiotics
Tried:  Prednisone, lialda, antibiotics all failed attempts.

Oh, it's definitely caused by Crohn's.
I remember being a kid and not wanting to walk anywhere, to just lay there until my legs stopped hurting. And I wasn't on any meds at the time.
It's been so long since I had arthritis, but I'm pretty sure my pains were below the knee.
Diagnosed with typical Crohn's at 16.
Got lucky with Asacol for a year, then even luckier with ten years of relative remission.
Now abscesses and fistulas are having an "atypical" Crohn's party around my junk.
My HMO refused the Remicade and now I could be going on Lialda or sulfa? blah

I'm with gypsyfp regarding the legs, add the back as well for me. I've had really good results for pain relief when my Dr. put me on Cymbalta to help with pain control, even though it's an anti depressant. Try googling it and then talk to your Dr. about it. I saw a 50% reduction in pain within 6 days at 30 mgs cymbalta per day. Now 5 weeks since I started, I'd say my pain is down around 75% less. Thank you Dr. for my life back!smilewinkgrin

Thats interesting about the Cymbalta. I've seen the commercials and wondered what that drug could do. I've tried Neurontin, Lyrica, Nsaids, etc. No relief. Its just weird because all of a sudden one day I couldn't walk and my legs were on fire. Never had a leg pain in my life. I really thought I was going to lose my legs, no kidding. But now its been awhile so I guess I get to keep them.... they just hurt like hell! Its kinda funny its either my legs or my stomach, I never get a break.

I get burning pain in my legs very similar to the growing pains I got as an adolescent. I thought it was from the nerve damage from surgery (many yrs b4 Crohn's) or from the arthritis in my tail bone. IDK maybe it's the Crohn's.

I feel a whole lot more the way I do now than I did a little while ago.

My parents took me to the ER numerous times when I was a kid because the leg pains were so severe. They were told it was growing pains! I still get those darn pains!

Cymbalta is used to treat Fibromyalgia.  It helped me some, but there were other drawbacks for me.  Going off of it was misery.  Then I started Savella, which is the newest Fibro drug, and that seems to be helping.  I still have pain, but it's generally less than it used to be.  Nothing I've tried so far does anything to help the fatigue, though.

I have gotten some relief from some of my joint pains with adding in Vitamin D. I am now taking 3400 units a day and it has helped alot. Joint pains can also be a precursor to a flare. I have also heard that Azulfadine is great for the joint pain too, so do give it a shot. Good luck!

I have the same issue. My IBD-related arthritis is tough in the evenings. I grab on to furniture to get around, and every joint in my body swells. I get very red/warm knees, and my hips flare more in the colder months.

I've also had luck with Vit D. It helped the Fibro symptoms a lot.

I don't know what to think about the "growing pains" though. Sounds fishy!?
Symptoms began in 1996 & Diagnosed April 2005 w/ Crohn's.
Fibromyalgia, Arthritis in August 2005.
35 yrs old - Methotrexate, Simponi (but it's not working), Methadone, Toprol, Prevacid, Zanaflex
