for 2 years now I have had pink red and purple splotchy looking spots all over my arms, mostly my upper arms. I don't know what they are and I'm really worried. my doctor was vague about them, he said it might be anemia so he ran a blood test, but the results came back that I didn't have anemia.

rosacea is my guess, can appear on face arms or even in the eyes (for someone who posted recently regarding gritty feeling in eyes could also be rosacea)
determined by dermatologist

but this can also be from high fatty acids (if your liver is predominantly providing energy from triglycerides, or is in inflammation mode, which of course, the body generally is with crohns and makes free fatty acids) possible help can can from zinc but zinc supplement is harsh on stomach by itself so take with a histidine
browse the CDC website as it is alot of information: http://www.cdc.gov/nutrition/everyone/basics/vitamins/
or better yet is: from national library of medicine: http://dietarysupplements.nlm.nih.gov/dietary/glossary.jsp and you can see what supplements is in what food supplement

When I start to get a flare, I sometimes get a splotchy patch of red bumps, usually on my upper arm.  Once on my back.  My Crohn's tends to come out a lot through my skin so I attribute it to that.  When I was first diagnosed it was mt regular dr who looked at a patch on my leg and thought it might be Erythema Nodosum, and that was one of the markers they were ale to use to diagnose my Crohn's.
I also recently got a crop of red bumps all along my backside and thighs, which I guess is the Crohn's too since I am in a flare.
Good luck!!

I am wondering if you are meaning something similar to what I get. If I even lightly bump my hands or forearms I will get these redish purplish marks. Sometimes even my watch rubbing my arms cause this. My GI told me because I used Pred so much during my lifetime that it has sped up my skin thinning. I feel like I should be much older with these marks. Sometimes if I bump myself a little harder I will get blood blister like marks on my arms. Not sure if this is what is happening to you, but I had blood tests too and all is normal. Good luck!
