Personally, for me, I have found that I seem to have the worst flares when I am going through any kind of stress/trauma in my life. Age 12-13, puberty...Dx'd with CD. Age 18, lost both parents in car accident... bad flare, ended up in hospital for a week. 2 years ago I was in a motorcycle accident, my company shut down so I lost my job and was having relationship problems to the point we split. No health insurance so I just dealt with it and ended up in the hospital having 6 ft of my small intestine removed. I have had "minor flares" in between those times which required either little or no treatment, but the worst ones were when I was dealing with other stuff mentally, emotionally, or physically.
I have always felt the way you have. Maybe I expect it, so it happens...?
Dx'd w/ Crohn's in 1979 at age 14, have had minor flares throughout the years, but mostly kept in remission. Bad flare 2008 but no health insurance so I dealt with it. Colonoscopy in July 2009 caused a perforated colon, emergency bowel resection. Was on Pred. Dr. wants to try Humira...
Currently just take a multivitamin, calcium, magnesium, and fish oil.
