Hi everyone!

I have Crohn's Colitis and just started taking VSL #3...a lot of people on the Ulcerative Colitis board use it and talk a lot about probiotics, but I don't hear a lot of talk about it on the Crohn's board. Does anyone here take VSL #3? Have you had success? How much do you take?

Yep, I've tried a bunch of it, once or twice a day, but never noticed any difference. I've heard gastros say it's indeterminate whether probiotics help with Crohn's, but they do seem to help with UC.

I usually have a bottle in the fridge but I like to alternate brands, so we don't use it exclusively. I remember when I first bought it that my son said he went from 3 to 2 or 1 bms a day. He wasn't sure he liked that.

We use capsules only (the sachets have a filler in it...like cornstarch, if I recall), and he takes only 1 a day, but usually alternating with another brand at this point.
Mom to 17 year old son diagnosed in June, 2007.
Omega 3s, digestive enzymes, probiotics, vit. C, calcium, vit. D3, a good multivitamin and SCD legal yogurt
Started The Maker's Diet in Sept. '07. Incorporate Specific Carbohydrate Diet (SCD) recipes, too. Med-free.

I take it and find that it helps. My diagnosis is questionable. My prometheus lab test is positive for crohn's and I have had a lot of other symptoms of crohn's but so far the doc says it is just colitis in my descending and sigmoid colon. So, for what that's worth. I think probiotics are important for any IBD. VSL #3 is expensive though, so you have to weigh that option. There are plenty of other probiotics out there that aren't as expensive.
diagnosed 1/09 with "diverticular colitis" ?? location: sigmoid colon
localized scleroderma, IBS, asthma/allergies, prediabetes, high BP, fibromyalgia
low thyroid, claritin, advair, singulair, diovan, progesterone, lialda, VSL#3 probiotic, Vit. D
tried just about every antidepressant known with so many side effects, still trying to find the right one
switching to prozac today
Blood test positive for Crohn's via prometheus ibd serology panel
