I am wondering if anyone has ever done a colon cleanse. The type in sold in a health food store. I have done the "cleansing" many times prior to my colonscopsy's. Wondering if it is the same effect?? Just read an article tonight and like to ask my fellow crohnies their honest opinion before the doc.

good advice, I try to fast once a month for 72 hr's only clear fluids,72 hr's is important because it gives your stomach enough rest from any food and a chance to get rid of all the stuff in your stomach, then introduce food slowly, everybody should do this, it's really not that hard, i drink chicken broth and apple juice. but you can't do much exercise, just chilllax around

I would think that a colon cleanse would clear out the good bacteria we need. And why in the world would you want to go thru something like that when we have to do it so often for our scopes.

The human body has been cleansing itself since the dawn of time. No one NEEDS to do a cleans. If you feel better after a few days of fasting that's great, but there is no medical reason to put your body through a drastic process to eliminate years of toxic build up.

Managing with strict low residue diet, keeping symptoms to a minimum. All test show small amount of ulceration, still have occasional blockages. But still have a great time with my 2 daughters and husband!

I agree with everyone above. Your colon is supposed to cleanse itself on its own, why would you want to do that to yourself with what we have to go through already, and I wouldn't want to upset the bacteria in my colon either.

I specifically agree re the bacteria issue . . . sluicing the thing out only upsets the balance in there, which can cause overgrowth of bugs you don't want. Also, any ulcerations could bleed from the washout. I rank colon cleansing right up there with razor blades staying sharp when stored in a pyramid. Pure fantasy, at best a waste of time, at worst downright harmful.
